Colonoscopy results. Confused

Thanks for the reply. Has this ruled out cancer? Didn't mention polyps or anything like that. That was my worse fear. I was thinking of micro colitis. She said it's crohns colitis as crohns is an umbrella term. "Watever that means" Crohns was my other worse fear. I'm so glad rge Colonoscopy is over. I've had 1 before and it didn't hurt as much as this one. Quite painful but I suppose the inflammation could make the pain worse. I was told I prob will have some discomfort st home but I have nothing. No wind either. Is that normal? I always have a very loud bowel.

I've just read about micro colitis. I don't think it's that as it don't cause bloody diarrhea and that's wat I had. I had Watery diarrhea and going toilet over 20 times a day and bloody diarrhea with sever cramping that lasted a week. My calproctin was greater than 6000.

How old are you?

I'm 42. Its frustrating waiting for results as now there going bk to the gp and not the colonrectal team who referred me. It's another week or 2 for results and another 3-4 weeks to be referred bk to the specialist which marked it as urgent. I thought she was referring me urgently thinking it was crohns or colitis as she didn't understand why I wasn't referred to her earlier. I suppose now cancer has been ruled oytt "hopefully" its no longer urgent. I'm just concerned with the inflammation and it getting worse. Not sure how long I had it. I do appreciate your replies. I would say that at 42 your risk or cancer is low. If they suspect this you would be given sooner appointment under the two week wait referral. You would also be sent for a ct and CEA blood test. You may be sent for a cat scan anyway as its a good way to view Your insides. reading the Internet and adding 2 and 2 to get 10.

Coliis and chrones are sim but not the same. You can feel ill, pain and loss of weight due to you body not holding the food.

Thanks for your reply a60450. I was being paranoid but feel better about it now. It could of been a lot worse and I went in thinking the worse. Its not a bad diagnosis. At lease I'll have regular colonoscopies to check for colon cancer it being the 3rd most common cancer. There's always surgery too later in life. my best scenario I was hoping for was colitis. I suppose I was hoping they would find nothing. I'm going to look on the bright side. Thank you so much for your help xx

If you have uc you have a slightly increased risk of cancer BUT this is long term and if not controlled by drugs like pentasa etc. You must remember the risk is low and there are other higher risks of this cancer. Overweight, eating processed foods, smoking, drinking and diabetes. If you have all these then worry. But remember you can offset a lot of your concerns. Look at it this way, if you drive 100 miles a day you are more likely to crash than the person driving 10 miles a day but it dosnt mean to say you will. And all depends how both people drive their cars as to the risk.

As for your worry by the time you get to the age to worry about cancer there will most likely be a simple cure. Just a thought

Lol I am over thinking. colitis usually affects the colon and my colon is normal and crohns usually affects the terminal ileum which is where my inflammation is. Unlikely I have colitis. I suppose I just need to wait for results :-(

Yes but uc can give you ulcers in other parts of the body like mouth and eyes. You can lose weight because the lack of absorb your colon takes. Also if you eat and you poo 20 mins later all the time your mind will tell you not to eat., so the circle goes on and on. I know proctitis can last a short time or become chronic. I suppose you know alit about it and the common causes if it? if it lasted a short while wouldn't that be good as a cure? My specialist said you can have colitis that comes back again and have it once for it to just disappear and never come back. There might be no cure but there's no cure with someone who sufferes with IBS but its controlled. Also having regular colonoscopies will ensure they catch colon cancer early "if u get it". So that's a positive as bowel cancer is very common in older people. Also colitis is curable with surgery. At least we have that option later in life.

And another thing I used to always take antibiotics and was on antibiotics 3 weeks before I got severe symptoms of colitis. So yes I would stay away from antibiotic if you can

Since you have the same as me were u diagnosed as having crohns disease as well as colitis? Makes sense why the endoscopist said I have crohns colitis as inflammation with colitis usually affects the colon and crohns can affect anywhere exp the terminal ileum and ileocacal valve which is wat I have. My colon is normal

Crohn can be either at the connection between small intestine and the colon, or more advanced stage, small sections of the colon as well as end of small intestine. Proctitis only affects the Rectum, and possibly a small section of colon near the apendix, gets inflamed. It may grow further, depending on the person, to become U colitis. It is assumed to be caused by bad bacteria, especially with anti biotics killing all good one. So pro biotics, yoghurt and Oregano oil (kills bad bacteria) may help. Hoping for more advances in science.
