Oesophageal Cancer

My daughter had a GERD problem. Lot of tests like endoscopy, US scan, Biopsy etc were done in last November and cleared of no major problem including cancer. But she had some annoying feeling in the throat something like ball or a rod is holding like. But no cough, hoarse sound or swallowing probelm. Only uneasy feeling. Went to another doctor and got a US scan. Found some nodules in the thyroid. Doctor said these are normal for above 40's and nothing to worry. Went to thyroid expert and got the same answer. Went to another ENT surgeon. He examined and said there are some white patches in the throat due to a bacterial infection (fungus) and prescribed some drugs. No relief. Went to another ENT surgeon. He examined and said there is little inflamation in the throat and treated for that. But no relief and now she is having a littles wallowing problem. A new development. Tomorrow she is going to another ENT surgeon. Mind you for all the doctors she cautioned about the suspicion of oesophageal cancer, but it was turned down.

Can anyone can shed some light in to this problem?

    I wonder if it is partly some form of bolus sensation connected to the nerves?

    Hi Nimal, I'm no doctor but I can certainly give you my take on things. Firstly, esophageal cancer is very rare. It's even rarer for someone your daughter's age. It's even rarer for females than males. Your daughter has had many scans done and they have all come back clear. For her to feel a cancer it would have to be at an advanced stage and therefore would be pretty close to impossible to miss during a gastroscopy (if that's what she has had?)

    The fact that she has had so many scans says that she is still worried about something being wrong. Your daughter could indeed have something that is causing her discomfort but the specialists (the professionals) have said its not cancer.

    Our mind can do amazing and terrible things to our body. I recently thought I could have cancer as I had a lump in my throat and pain that wouldn't go away for over a week, even with the help of antibiotics. I had a scan that showed up clear and the next day the pain was all but gone.

    There is a very real sensation caused globus that people get, especially if they get reflux or gerd. Ask anyone on this site and a lot of people will tell you they've had this feeling. By all means, follow through with the scans and referrals but also tell your daughter everything will be okay (if she's thinking esophageal cancer) and give her a big hug. :-)
