After being admitted to hospital last month as in such horrendous pain and having lots of tests I was told I had diverticulitis and a hole in my bowel .I was in for 17 days as antibiotics were not clearing and they had to go in and clear out the poison with keyhole surgery...I've been on a low residue diet for 6 weeks .Today I had a colonscopy and have been told I can reintroduce fibre ..So glad as have been missing fruit and vegetables so much..I'm a little apprehensive with just changing my diet overnight should I just do it gradually?

You could start with easier things and go slowly. The low residue diet I was given had some fruits and veg, and if you aren't eating those already you can start with them.
ripe soft fruit with no peel or skin (bananas, soft cantaloupe or honeydew melon, peaches, nectarines, apricot, papaya, plum)
applesauce
canned fruit
well cooked or canned veg without skin or seeds (spinach, eggplant, green beans, carrots, butternut squash (and similar))
If you are already eating those, I would try things like an apple with no peel and see how it goes.
