Hip revision not going well

Posted , 5 users are following.

I had a right hip revision 12 weeks ago after having a total right hip replacement 12 years ago. I'm 54 years old.

I'm still in a lot of pain, my specialist is recommending more physio, then a review in 3 months, with a view to another total hip revision, this will need bone grafts and a long recovery time.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Had the whole nine yards too. I am 8 weeks out from revision from recall metal on metal hip done in 2011. Had cobalt poisoning, pseudo tumors, swollen lymph glands, necrosis, erosion from the m-o-m neck.

Long story shot after 6 years of heavy metal tests ,X-rays MRI's no one saw the greater trochanter femoral fracture all that time suffering and not one THR specialist

would look for the reason for pain becuz it didn't show up on tests. It was found during revision surgery.

i still cannot put all my weight on the leg and have had 2 weeks of therapy. Revision is a long journey even A longer implant mine is 11" long with a ceramic ball.

Also have a cable holding implant and fracture together also had bone graft which is simply finely ground bone added to hold the bone and stabilize the area the cable also has to be removed in three months. Lots to look foreword too!

Do you know what th manufacturer and why you need a graft.

The other hip was done 18 years ago and ok all this time however I was younger  in my 40's then and three THR have taken a lot out of me. Trying to stay positive.

I have to have the cup replaced in the older hip soon. As the surgeon said someasy in and out no problem. Yeah like anatomy 101 easy peasy. It's not their hip is it?

im exhausted no more therapy for me. I will, just take it slow and walk and hope I can eventually walk with no canes. Revisions are a lot more complicated than primary surgery and so many things can go wrong. I guess that why we sign a release form,

now stay well and take it one day at a time. Don't do anything that can put your revision surgery at risk. I was even hurt during therapy and sent to hospital. So therapy does't always have all the answers or do they understand the pain. If it hurts while in therapy don't do it. Tell them it's not time and your opinion pain and not ready.

We we both know that is will get better in time . Be hopeful it is a lot to ask of ourselves sometimes but it the best hope we have.

Do,you know what manufacturer is your revision and why you'll need a graft?

Im very sorry to hear you have had to go thru all these complications but It's important to share with others. Unfortunately it got to be a good outcome in the end for everyone.

    See side extras of revision.

Not sure I can help with ur issue, as I haven't had a revision, however, Can I ask why u needed the revision after 12 years? And what sort of implant did u have originally? Good luck with ur recovery.

    Dear John

I'm so sorry to hear that your hip revision is not going well. My replacement of twenty years ago has failed and I'm waiting for replacement surgery so I will be very interested to read contributions to your discussion.

    Best wishes Richard
