Help please? Anal Fissures....

I have Anal Fissures, and have not yet been to the doctor (I will though) I'm in agony, doing the toilet and having a shower drives me to tears, I do not look forward to either. They started only recently, I've been depressed and just weened myself off some bad medicine...medicine prescribed by a doctor during my depression...Zoplicone, a sleeping tablet...which for over a month was a godsend to be honest, I was getting a maximum of half an hour sleep each night. The side effects however, are not worth all the sleep in the world...there's the excruciating pain in your mouth to begin with, like all your teeth are being pulled in different directions, they are metallic too...like being wrapped in tin foil, these are both constant, with you during the day and through the night, the pain is ridiculous, the metallic taste is Zinc, tastes a bit like your mouth is full of blood the whole time...I'm off the tablet now, and no sooner had I started to recover from these side effects when BAM...have some pain in the other end now John! Blood from the other end, the cuts feel long and deep, but having maneuvered myself in such a position to view closely in a mirror...I see small lacerations, around the anal passage...so much agony from such a small tear...having read some of the discussions posted, I am not looking forward to visiting my doctor, however I can not take this pain any longer...keep you posted, John

Sounds like you need painkillers and fast - like you I had a really nasty fissure which made my life a misery for over 2 years. I had 2 rounds of botox which did nothing for me (in fact 2nd round had me admitted to hospital a week after in totally excruitating agony).
What worked for me was ANOHEAL (Diltiazem) cream - http://www.stmarksfoundation.org/uploads/docs/patientinformationleaflets/PIL%20Diltiazem.pdf - it slowly helped my anus from being in spasm and like a vice which meant trying to go to toilet was VERY difficult.
Sorry for this next part, I took to going to toilet in the bath with shower on - so as I went the water from shower was warmish - this helped go - messy but effective (and yes I disinfected and cleaned thoroughly the bath each time).
Morning trip out of way - it mean bad pain for a few hours afterwards - but my painkillers helped - I was taking Diclofenac, Traumadol and Paracetemol. The other thing that made a big different for me was Macrogol solution to make stools soft (it draws water into the bowels and is very effective) - don't make same mistake as me and take too much senokot or other similar which just speed up process - drink loads of water and take Macrogol solution. If you are in UK these things are all available on NHS.
Get a donut ring to sit on - it will help.
Everybody has different stories and some much worse than others - the thing is to remember that it may take some time to heal and that it WILL heal - as it takes its own course to do this be strong and trust me others know the pain you are in right now.
Wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery.
Jeff

I think the first step is to go and see your GP or ask to be referred to a colon rectal surgeon. I have suffered for nearly 12 months and tried cream such as 2% Diltiazem Hydrochloride cream which did work for a short period of time. I visited a surgeon in March this year and he couldn't examine me due to my pain. The other option discussed was surgery. I have to say that the symptoms came back roughly 6-7 weeks ago. After much thinking and research I decided to have a lateral sphincterotomy last week which fingers crossed appears to have been successful, although appreciate it is early days.
I have had to alter my diet, drinking more water than I used to, eating more fruit and veg and eating prunes and drinking prune juice should all help you.
Nobody understands the pain unless you suffer this terrible condition.
I wish you well and hope something can be done for you.

Yes I had surgery in Dec 2013 and so far it seems to have worked! No pain and generally feeling better in myself.
Good luck.

Everybody is different so you might not be off as long.
I went to a surgeon who specialises in this type of surgery... good to do your homework etc. I was only in hospital for the afternoon and discharged later the same night.

Do you mind me asking, how long did you have your fissure for? Did it heal with diet alone, or did you have medical assistance?
Happy that you have experienced relief!!

I had same issues agony for a couple of weeks till it healed. It kept coming back every few months absolutely agony wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I started having fruit n fibre cereal for breakfast and started eating a bit more fruit. I also drank a lot more water than I was and this sorted the problem out. It's noticeable when I miss eating cereal for a few days I start to get a sore arse! Definitely worked for me
