Chronic Pancreatitis with Kidney failure

My son has had end stage renal failure for a few years and is incredibly ill and extremely weak desing regular dialysis. he has also just been diagnosed with Chronic Pancreatitis after weeks of investigations to try and work out why he has lost most of his body weight and has been unable to eat anything at all along with other sympotoms of vomitting diarrhea and constant pain. Before being diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis he was already sufferining immensely and had talked about dying and that he has had enough of feeling so ill and that he felt he was dying and he was ready to die. Now with this added condition which we know little about i worry for him. We had hoped that once they got to the bottom of what was going on he would make some recovery and start to feel better however having read some of the stories on here i now fear the worst.....I take it from these stories that the level of pain he is experiencing is an ongoing effect of the condition that does not improve very much even with the morphine he is on. He currently has a drain that is removing a bloody fluid from his stomach but Doctors havent mentioned anything about pseudocysts so im confused as to what the blood is. I dont know what to say to my son when he asks if he would be better off dead..... how do i answer that ? he has suffered so so much and is soooo tired of trying to fight this losing battle.....Im heartbroken and at a loss as to what i can say to reasure him. Does anyone have any advice or comments or suggestions that may help. My son is aged 33yrs and has not drank alcohol for 10years and dcotors say they dont know the cause of his pancreatitis. Please help!

    Sylvia, I wish I had better news but it seems your son has another disease which is not going to look favorably upon him pancreatitis is a ugly terrible disease to have.I do have hope for you though he is currently taking morphine for his pain I would say get him on dilaudid which is 10 times the strength of morphine.I believe with a milligram or two at a time of dilaudid and 4 milligrams of zofran he will be able to be kept comfortable and pain free. My most sincere prayers go out to you and your family and I hope the drugs that I suggested will be effective for him.

    I must add, the Zofran i discussed is to calm or eliminate the nausia.

    Hi Sylvia my name is Janelle I am also a ESRD patient who has Chronic Pancreatitis. What has worked for me is wearing a Fentanyl patch for pain and taking a Phergen tablet for nausea. No one really understands how painful pancreatitis is until they have it but trust I truly understand and sympathize with your son.Sometimes you truly feel like death would be best. I hope this truly helps and sorry I didn't find this post sooner, if this is too late I truly hope you son found something that helped him.

    Hello Sylvia Im shannon and Im suffering from ESRD stage 5 doing dialysis 3 times a week, have chronic pancreatitis and am now diabetic due to the pancreatitis.  Im currently taking dilaudid 4mg and Morphine 30mg to combat the pain.  The morphine isnt working all that well but the dilaudid works wonders.  Im struggling through the pain and fatigue and still trying to maintain my full time job.  Tell your son dont give up and go see a pain management specialist to get his pain under control.  I hope this helps.

    My husband has chronic pancreatitis and part of the pancreas has permanently necrotized and now he's having severe lower left back pain day 3 and wants me to take him to the doctor. I'm freaking out inside. Do you guys think it's his kidneys now too?

    And Sylvia and all you others I'll be praying for all of you and those affected with this horrible disease
