Computer use

In some ways a general eye health question.  I was diagnosed with raised i.o.p three years ago.  There was slight damage to the right retina.

It was successfully lowered by SLT and there have been no further changes.  I do sometimes wonder about computer use.  Can this affect eye health ? If so what is the safe limit ?  Thanks for any information.

Prolong uses of computer don’t have direct effect on ocular pressure. However, any kind of strain/stress on mind or body can lead to change in IOP.  You need to take extra care of your eyes; as high eye pressure is associated with glaucoma. Take frequent breaks while using computer for long hours so that your eyes don’t get fatigued. Wear computer glasses have a different focal point than reading glasses. This will reduce the effort of focusing and putting a strain on your eyes.

In addition, avoid smoking and excessive alcohol, eat a healthy diet, keep your weight down, exercise, take nutritional products and be sure to see your eye specialist on a regular basis.

Thanks bethany that's very helpful-much appreciated.  I've never heard of computer glasses.  Does the optician make a separate r?

It's a separate pair of glasses.  The upper part has the trifocal range (intermediate, computer distance, about 20inches), the lower has bifocal range.  I used them for years while reading x-rays.  It requires changing glasses when you leave the computer so you can see distance.

I would like to see any scientific references showing that stress and/or eye fatigue by themselves lead to IOP..
