CONSTANT PRESSURE IN SINUS AREAS

Posted , 8 users are following.

Hey everyone!

There is this constant pressure behind my nose above my hard palate and seems to move around in the sinus areas. Sometimes this pressure gets heavy and I can feel it on my palate and it really weighs a lot and drags my face down..or sometimes I feel it up against my temples...my head just seems frozen as well. Forehead goes numb sometimes or just feels frozen. It feels as though there is excessive air that just wishes to release itself but is being blocked or something. When I go in an elevator, on the way down, my ears get blocked.

I have tried antiobiotics but to no avail. I have never tried the saline rinse because I am afraid of worsening things. Sometimes when I blow my nose, thick green mucus mixed with a little blood comes out.

I have had 2 CT scans done but nothing appears other than a cyst in my left sinus which doctors have said should not be causing such issues.

I have been living with this for more than 2 years now and doctors think i am crazy.

Please let me know if anyone has had a similar experience and what I can do to just live normally again without this pressure PLEASE!

thanks!!!

I suffered chronic sinusitis for 50 years, until I found a complete cure for my problem. It was simply taking one Evening Primrose Capsule each day. Please read my post on Patient, "Sinus Infection-An effective treatment".

This treatment may not cure your complaint, but it is inexpensive, and certainly worth a try. Let me know how you get on. Best of luck

      thanks Ray.

      I will try that.

I just feel as though the mucous may have hardened and is just stuck somewhere...but would that not show up in CT scans??

I am at such a loss sad

    Hi SS,

Sorry to hear about your problems.  Of the three replies already posted I would certainly give the Evening Primrose a go.  It may be that you've had the wrong antibiotic, and erythromycin may help but please NEVER accept a prescription for Levaquin.  It's a very strong antibiotic of the fluoroquinolone group (like Cipro etc) and was developed for tackling anthrax, not sinus problems.  Doctor's often prescribe it for sinusitis that won't shift but the problem is you may then get 'floxed' - fluroquinolone toxcity (check out the thread on this forum).  Crippling tendon and muscle pain along with digestive and mental problems is probably not what you expect from an antibiotic, but is what many people are now suffering from - and it can last for years after you've taken the AB.

Have you tried simply dissolving menthol crystals in very hot water and inhaling the steam (being careful not to scald your nose!) - this cured me when I had sinus trouble.  Also try excluding dairy from your diet, I always stop dairy if I have a cold.  I always take evening primrose, and after a solid year of chronic sinusitis about 30 years ago, I've never had a problem.  Finally, is your environment stuffy with cental heating and a lot of electrical stuff?  These may not help, so try to get a lot of fresh air.

I will try the evening primrose....it's strange because the doctors said that there was nothing that they could see in the CT scan.

I was given Clavo because I had a bacterial infection - the mucous was thick and white and stringy. But occasionally there is thick sticky green/brown mucous that comes out with spots of blood in it.

I am thinking perhaps the mucous has hardened ??It seems to be localized in the inferior turbinate and middle turbinate....

I will give the Evening Primrose a try.

      Thanks!

      Hi Shirley,

Glad you found this site and hope that it helps you, it certainly sounds like you've been floxed.  There's a few threads on this site - just put fluoroquinolones in the search box.  One of them has links to useful websites both in the US and the UK.  The best one (I reckon) in the US is floxie hope, so take a look there if you haven't come across it already.

It's the same story in both countries - doctors hand out these drugs like sweets without realising what devastating effects they can have.  It's just wrong, they should be kept for life-or-death cases only, not given for sinusitis or a UTI!

My boyfriend is sick of hearing about it every day. He thinks I am blowing everything out of proportion. As a result my anxiety and worry are non stop. I'm glad to post here so I can at least let it out. I'm not sure what the outcome will be once I see the doctor in a few days but I know I can post my feelings and get some support. Thanks all for listening

Karen, I've replied to you below about evening primrose but the moderator is checking it because I foolishly mentioned the name of a manufacturer.  If he deletes it I'll write again.  Any debilitating illness or problem is bad enough without friends and family moaning and groaning at you.  I'm glad you can find support through this site, as the more positive you can feel the better you can cope with everything.  I hope you do try the evening primrose and that it helps you. All the best.

I have had constant pain/ pressure in nose and in between eyes. It's been going on for 5+ weeks. Going to see ENT next week. I use ice/warm face cloth with drops of eucalyptus. I have taken antibiotics, nasal decongestant, musinex and Tylenol. Some days are ok but then it flares up. I've had sinus headaches on and off for 10+ years. CT scan 9 years ago showed a deviated septum and concha bullosa but 2nd ENT Doctor said it looks fine! I feel depressed cause I don't know the cause of the pain/pressure. I can relate. Some people have suggested primrose? What is that?

Some people find taking evening primrose oil helpful.  It's available in most health stores and chemists.  I take a 1000mg capsule every day as I believe it helps with 'general maintenance' of the body.  I didn't realise it was reputed to help with sinus problems until someone on this site said.  Looking back, I used to have a chronic sinus problem and every cold was guaranteed to block me up and cause pain.  I started on the evening primrose for something else about 20 years ago and can honestly say I haven't had any sinus trouble since then - although I didn't know why!

Karen. I have already replied on this post, but feel compelled to reply to your request.

I was a chronic sinus sufferer for 50 years, and was treated by many specialists, with limited long term improvement. I had cortorised nose cavity treatment twice, which gave short term relief, but the sinus problem returned. I relied on normal treatments, such as antihistamines and sinus tablets such as sinutabs, Avil retards, nasal sprays and drops, plus analgesics for temporary relief on a perpetual basis. It was a never ending saga, with no prospect of improvement. My sinuses were particularly affected by high humidity, weather changes, kapok dust, plant pollens, cigarette smoking, and some foods such as nitrates and eggs. I had to leave the coast and live inland to get relief from high humidity. At age 65 I found a complete cure, with absolutely no sinus problems and no hayfever. The answer to my problem was simply taking one 1000mg Evening Primrose capsule each day. This treatment worked the first day.

Evening Primrose Oil works by desensitising the nervous system, including the nostrils and sinuses. No sinusitis, no hayfever, no drugs required. I took one evening primrose capsule daily for twelve months, in order to prevent a recurrence of the problem, and to desensitise the sinuses fully. I now take an evening primrose capsule occasionally, except when I am in a difficult environment such as in a humid situation on the coast, or in a smoking environment such as travelling by public transport.

Evening Primrose Oil was a miracle cure for me, after a lifetime of intense sinus problems, with regular debilitating headaches, even after taking sinus tablets and strong analgesics.

Give this treatment a try if you suffer from sinusitis or hayfever. You may be as surprised as I was.

Note. Evening Primrose Oil works in about 4 hours and the affect lasts for a further 24 hours, so one capsule daily is normally sufficient.

      Regards Ray.

Thanks Raymond. I'm thinking the Primrose over. I do take an SSRI and it says it may interact with it??? I'm so paranoid about trying something new.

    • Posted

"May interact" is what it says.  You don't say which SSRI you take but my husband has taken eve prim along with Sertraline for years with no ill effects (as far as we can tell!).  I can fully understand your paranoia, but I would always take my chances with a natural product like eve prim rather than a big pharma drug like an SSRI.  I'm not sure but I believe the problem may be eve prim enhances the effects of the SSRI, also blood pressure lowering pills and also may lower blood sugar - in fact it sounds positively good for one's health!

By the way, my  prescribed eve prim turned out to be produced by Monsanto, which is a company I don't much like the sound of, so I took to buying them myself from the health food shop.  Good luck!
