Could this just be IBS

I'm going to try and keep this short and sweet,

Basically Ive problems with Both my stomach and my bowels, 1 I can't pass stools although they are soft (I have to help my self constantly) and constantly feel the need to pass stools, do get the odd abdominal cramps on the left bottom sode of my abdomen. What I am worrying about now is, in December I had a random onset of complete loss of appetite and feeling naucious after eating, doctor said this was due to constipation and prescribed me laxido, these seemed to work 11 weeks later symptoms returned, yet laxatives made the problems considerably worse and since then I have not been able to pass stools just with normal pushing since. Coming away from that my loss of appetite and stomach burning has returned except it's getting worse as time goes on, for the past few weeks every time I eat or drink I am burping considerable amounts, always getting nauseous and sometimes stomach pains, if I eat a substantial meal and sometimes having a big drink (I only drink water recently) then within 2 minutes Getting the symptoms I get every time I eat/ drink but 5/10 minutes I'm feeling sick and a burp will usually bring back food,(this has only happened a handful of times over this course of having symptoms) if I'm near a toilet I run for it and I will vomit but only liquids and sometimes Abit of food, for the past few days it also constantly feel like a weigh is I my stomach.

I am awaiting a letter to see a specialist, just thinking if this does sound like ibs if anyone has has ibs cause them to be vomiting continuously after food/drink?

My parents are wanting me to look at going to A&E tomorrow if the vomiting happens again as this will be the 4th day in a row! But I don't want to do this if others have had ibs cause this

So it's not so short but I greatly apriciate any responses

Jessica, have you ever had a colonoscopy check to make sure you don't have any problems in your bowel track. It sounds like you should get a good check up to make sure everything is okay with you. This doesn't sound like IBS to me but I am sure others will give you their thoughts as well. I hope you get a good check up to make sure everything is okay and then you will be able to know for sure if this is IBS or something else.

Morning Jessica; I too AGREE with others.....you need an Endoscopy and Colonoscopy, and the sooner the better.....I am not wanting to worry you, but "if you feel there is something Blocking the passage of food through your system", then you need to have it checked....there are many reasons, and you can't just keep waiting for That specialist appt...today is the time to go....and Do mention everything (including the bit re having to Assist your bowel movements...and especially the fact that now you are Vomiting back most of what you are taking in, orally....................good luck, and let us know the results.............Bron

I feed as if stools are not moving through the bowels as they should be and it may be all backed up which is why I may be heaving / vomiting after eating if that is even possible I don't know, I don't know the best way to go about it, if I carry on with the vomiting today, do I ring the doctors or just go to a and e

in reply Jessica; from what you are saying, and remember, it is hard to diagnose over the internet, but if your vomit smells "like faecal matter/brown in colour...the fluid that comes with the food"....you need to go to A&E, STRAIGHT away....there is such a thing known as " a twisted/blocked bowel".....if either of these, it can have very bad repercusions.....your bowel will necrose (die)....please go, if not to satisfy yourself, then for me, as I am starting to get concerned (and I'm ?half way around the world)......it could only be Constipation of the Upper Large bowel, but still needs to be treated....ASAP......let me know when you get back and ensure that you have your abdomen/bowel x-rayed...a twist will show up like having "a water level" in your x-ray........Bron

I rang my doctor who said I could go to A and E but doesn't think they will do much as its nothing serious😳probably just to much acid in my stomach( one minute it's ibs the next its acid reflux) or I can go to him and he will put me on a higher dose of Omeprazol

So I've took the decision to leave work and take my self to a and e! Here's hoping they will do something more than just feel my tummy and send me off with some tablets!

      Thankyou for your reply

I think you need to go to A and E.

Also thinking this could be gallstones which I had recently.

An ultrasound scan could who them up.

    Good luck with all this.

Take care and keep in touch

    Praying for you

    I think you should go to A & E.

It could be gallstones which I have had recenlty, if you feel something is blocking, that's how I felt

If oyu have an ultrasound scan this may show up if there are stones.

Take care and keep in touch.

    Hi Jessica,

1st of all, I highly suggest changing GPs. Yours sounds like a good for nothing who does not take you seriously.

I agree with the others, a colonoscopy or a flexisig (a type of endoscopy) would be a good idea to rule out any worries of colitis or chrons disease. Try to ring up the specialist and ask for an urgent referall - I've done this in the past and it worked!

Do you find the problems comes after eating particular types of food? Maybe you have an intolerance or an allergy to something like gluten? An OGD (another type of endoscopy) might be worthwhile to rule out coeliac disease (gluten intolerence).

As somebody mentioned above, there is such thing as a bowel obstruction. Have you had any surgeries in the last 5-10 years? Sometimes after surgery, pelvis adhesions can occur and cause problems with bowels and passing stools.

Jessica, you say you have been taking laxitaves for a while now, I was doing the same and found that they can cause something called 'lazy Bowel' where your brain cannot send the correct signals to push. There is a test for this called a shape study.

I'm taking from your user name that you are pretty much the same age as me, and I really feel for you Jessica. My advise to you is don't panic! Take a trip to A&E if you feel it's necessary and maybe take a list of things like symptoms and suggestions. Then you won't miss things out (I always miss things out haha!)

You know your body, and don't let any doctors tell you that this is no serious. It is life limiting for you and that is serious for you.

Good luck, I hope you get the attention and treatments you need and deserve!

      Hi, thankyou for your reply

I am going to a and e, I have over nearly 2 weeks been keeping a diary of food eaten, and all pains and bowel function, I will be taking that with me.

I have had no surgeries, I was on laxatives for 2 weeks came off them, put me back on them a few weeks later but after 4 days it made me worse so I stopped them, since been on slither type of laxative again after a week made it worse so I stopped and the onto micrlax I think it's called, I saw no improvement with this, all I passed on pushing the liquid out was mucas. One doctor has also said It seems my bowel muscles are not working correctly.

      Hopefully A&E can provide answers

Good choice Jessica. This doesn't sound anything like IBS to me either! As an IBS sufferer I found Laxido helped. I really hope you get this sorted as it sounds like a real nightmare! Someone definitely misdiagnosed you if they said you had IBS.

Update fo everyone that has helped

Went to a & e they did urine and blood tests all came back normal so sent me away with buscopan, cyclizine and glycerin suppositories and told to righ my doctor to push referal forward

So really I'm no closer to finding out what's normal😩 seems to me there not thinking that vomiting after eating and drinking and not being able to pass stools without assising yourself is nothing to worry about!

Oh dear sounds like you're the same as me told to take medication fobbed off with go home and take these and we'll ignore your other symptoms!  Try asking for some decent anti anxiety drugs from your chemist!

Hi Jessica; so it's another 25 hrs, so how are you feeling now....any better or worse/no change?.......this is something that I don't understand....how can they tell what is happening if no Proper tests are done? and an x-ray doesn't cost a fortune, and takes 10 minutes.............baffling me......Bron

So yesterday was my first day since May that I passed stools naturally and felt 'normal' most of the day, ate food, didn't hurt ect untill the night, tried to eat a decent sized meal (I was so hungry) but tried to eat it slowly, after half an hour of finishing I was in excruciating pain and throwing up! So I guess I will see how today goes, however I feel these tablets especially the suppositories will work but once I stop taking them I am overally concerned it will return with a vengeance. I feel now that it may be a problem with my bowel that is causing a back lash and feel using a type of laxatives is just going to make my bowel lazier if that is the problem 😁 this morning I am in discomfort, stomach is burning again and gas getting stuck. I guess only time will tell

Jessica, I am wondering if you have reflux acid. Because the burnng and the food coming back up is a sign of undigested food in some cases. What is the name of the tablets you were given and I will be able to tell you if those tablets are for reflux acid. If you have reflux there is  a much better solution that is all natural for reflux acid. It is called Apple Cidar Vinigar with the mother in it. You can get it from the Natural Health food store. You mix 1 teaspoon of apple cidar vinigar into and 8 0z glass of warm water and drink it with a straw after lunch and after supper. You can start slow and drink only an ounce or two to see how it works for you. You can't use this natural remedy with your current pills though if those pills are for reflux acid. Reflux acid in most cases means your stomach does not produce enough acid to digest your food properly and every you eat sits and some comes back up in your throat like a burning sensation. If you do have reflux you should of been told to eat a bland diet until your system gets straightened out. So, again, let me know the names of all the medication you are now taking and I can tell if you have been prescribed something for acid reflux.

                           Blessings to you

Hi Lynn whilst it has been mentioned I have suffered with it in the past where I have been getting a matalic taste in my mouth, however this time I do not get that, perviously (few weeks ago) I was given omeprazol which I know is for acid reflux but I didn't not see any improvement on these, this time I am on buscopan, suppositories and cyclizine

You know why you didn't see any improvement with the drugs Jessica. Because those drugs are for blocking the acid not balancing it out. Therefore, when you take the pills you are not getting enough acid in your stomach to digest your food. You in fact are making it worse by taking the pills that block the acid. I know a lot of people think they have too much acid when they suffer from acid reflux, when in reality they do not have the right amount of acid in their stomach to digest their food. And what are the suppositories supposed to do for you? Please explain that. I will come back on with more information about buscopan and cyclizine, but again what supportories are you taking?

But when I have had acid reflux in the past, those tablets helped? This time round is nothing like how I suffered with acid reflux? The suppositories are because since May I had not been able to pass stools without me physically having to do it! Besides having used senakot and eminas, these glycerin suppositories however seem to be doing something as for the past 2 days I have been able to pass them normally and they have returned to my normal log shaped rather than the pellets I was getting, since this I am eating (besides last night) and not feeling sick of vomiting, does still cause some discomfort but nothing as bad as it was! I feel this is more a bowel problem than stomach problem and that the stomach is probably being effected by my bowels not working properly since they are all connected.

Those pills helped my mother in the past for reflux at first but then they stopped working and she used the apple cidar vinigar and it worked very well. So it is an option for those with reflux, but check with the pharmacist first before anyone takes it to make sure it doesn't interfere with their other medications. I am glad your bowels are moving again, but that has a lot to do with what foods you are eating and how much fiber you get etc. Do you eat vegtables, fruit and fiber etc on a balanced diet?the only way to really find out if it is a bowel problem is to have a colonoscopy test. You should ask your doctor if he will give you one. Eating the right diet has a lot to do with how your bowels work. It is the food that turns into bowel movements and if the bowel movement cannot get out , then that could be a colon problem. So the stomach and the bowels do work together. If you are eating properly and on a good diet, then I would say the bowel is the problem. I hope you can get this sorted out and get the proper testing done.

                                Blessings to you

Yes I eat a very balanced diet( maby a little more chocolate than I should) I am very cautious about my weight and being healthy so I do try to eat correctly! I have upped my fibre intake but that made my stools softer obviously and since I was pushing and stools wernt moving it make it harder to remove them myself! I do feel this is more of a problem with by bowel muscles
