Damage done by C.T scan

Posted , 3 users are following.

I had a C.T scan ,Pelvic area due to an abcess  When I returned to the ward I felt a very large swelling on the left hand side just below ribs I

told every doctor that came to check on me and the swelling was ignored

by everyone  I still have the swelling and a constant ache, I have no follow up appointment with any doctor or consultant.

Has anyone been damaged by a C.T scan???

Not possible as far as I am aware.

In sofar as I have never heard of it happening and millions are done every year. The only rare swelling can be on the site where any contrast dye was injected or from a rection to it.

If you are now home you could dial 111 and ask them

Why not Google swelling after CT Scan to see if you get a result.

Thank you for your patronising response, I was expecting some intelligent

answers, ,from anyone who might have endured a similar experiece.

The swelling was not there immediately before the scan and was quite

      obvious when it was over.

It is now two months ago.and using 111 would probably be on a par with

your comments ,as I would not expect them to know either.

Your Google suggested alley has been trodden, with no satisfactory

results, that is why,,as a last resort ,and a faster one than standing

in a medical queue I came on here. and got you .

P.S   you might find Spell Checker useful

You spell checker is as bad as mine.

      Patronising

      experiece.

      ago.and

You gave the impression that the swelling was after a scan in the last few days and not long standing. A hernia??

Okay, there's no need for this you two. People come on this site to help each other, not to bicker.

To my knowledge, no a CT scan cannot cause the swelling. However, an abscess can start growing much faster with no warning so this comes down to a coincidence with the CT scan.

However, 2 months with no one doing anything else to your abscess is dangerous. Who coordinated the CT scan- your general doctor or a specialist? Have you received a call on the results of your CT yet and who called?

Just to bring you up to speed Derek ,the swelling is still here and

aches .Doctors not too knowledgable ,one said it was a pulled muscle

because it sits just under my very bottom rib. I don't know if I can ask

for one of those scans that uses jelly, probably got a proper name .but

not known by me .  It's nearly ten months that I have been attempting

to get someone to take me seriously about it.

It started immediately after the scan .

    Hi Jackie,

It would help to have some background information. Was the pelvic abscess diagnosed via tha CT. Or did you have an abscess fistulagram under CT? Also, what, if anything was done for the abscess? Was it drained? Was it diagnosed as infectious by nature? Are you on antibiotics? What caused the abscess to develop? Was it spontaneous, did you have surgery, was it related to diverticulitis or another underlying condition?

Hello .your note has just appeared, god knows where it has been hanging out.

I was admitted with the mega Divi pain. bloods taken. which I

understand are the principle pointer to trouble , fastened to drip machine ,just watered, not fed ,and was pressed and poked until

I yelped. The abcess burst on the second day, the C.T scan was the

next day. to check if the inflamation was spreading, and a visit to

the theatre was on the cards, My blood count went down dramatically

and the consultant said the "bugs were cooking nicely " and the

infection stayed local. The swelling ,quite large, appeared on the

,left side , waist high ,as I returned from the scan, and highly visible. and it ached, the ache is still there Doctors chose to ignore it.

I am seeing my G.P this morning specifically to ask him to have a

sqeeze around the area.as I had no call to return to the hopital

I am not on antibiotics once off the drips Paracetamol now and then.

      The abcess burst

I have no idea what caused  it, as I am careful what I eat

I suppose the abcess grew because of something that got held in

      a pouch and festered .

the abcess was not drained it was left to disperse and got killed

      0ff with the antibiotics

and ,yes I do have Divi

      hope you get this  !!!!!

      for a few reassuring words

Hi. did I send you enough info,   regarding my festering "SPOT "

Bit more info for you. I did see my G.P about the swelling "Due to

infection "" The pain ,,left  side,, bottom of rib cage is a pulled muscle

probably caused by my constantly hauling myself up and down in bed

as other arm was fastened to drips.

Divi has gone into hiding,  no call back. Letter from consultant

to say  ,not necessary to see me  The muscle still lets itself be

known, but ,that's it ,until tke next time
