Diagnosed with anxiety and given xanax

I am 43 years old and have been going thru some symptoms for over a year, dizziness everyday mostly all day, fast heart rate among other symptoms as well and wasn't sure what it was. I have been to an ENT and a neurologist and all normal. I recently went to the emergency room last Friday cause of severe dizziness and some chest pains and was admitted overnight for observation. I was given a xanax in the ER and it calmed me down and dizziness was almost gone completely ( never taken xanax before ) The next morning they sent me to go to a stress test and that was normal as well and was diagnosed with anxiety. I need everyone's thoughts that takes xanax and how it makes them feel.

Xanax and Valium should be only an emergency fix. It should not be an ongoing treatment over a long period. Very addictive. You need to talk with your private doctor about ongoing, low dose care. Citalopram or Lexapro or something kind of like those. But to answer your question, Xanax worked, made me lightheaded, but a day after not taking them, I started a terrible headache. Every time I took one, headaches started the next day. I have taken a Xanax about 10 times in the last 3 years. Hope this helps.

I can completely understand what and how u are feeling. I've suffered some form of anxiety for 8 years but managed to somehow control it only had flare ups. Well that all change dramatically in January this year I just all.of a sudden felt like I was dying. Overwhelming sense of doom couldn't breath chest pains left arm pain. Went to A&E that day they didn't bloods chest xray and ecgs was all normal. So the sent me to see my gp who said to me it's health related anxiety. Which I couldn't believe my God I felt like I was dying. I was signed off work for 3 months as I couldn't leave the house. Went to A&E about 5 times saw every doctor at my surgery no one believes it's anything physical. So I Google all my symptoms and it all points to heart. I've asked and even demanded more specialised test they won't give them to me and say it's because all it will do is feed into the anxiety and in long run make it worse and I'll look for more and more reassurance
