I am 70 and not had sex for about 20 years, and my vaginal health has been pretty good up till now. Suddenly out of the blue I get a creamy discharge that has tiny traces of blood in it. It only came once, but I am concerned.
Before I head off to the gynac and have horrid instruments stuck up me, I thought I'd ask: Anyone familiar with this?

It could be an infection. However, decreased estrogen levels can lead to a drier and less elastic vagina which can cause irritation and discomfort.
Additionally, the lack of vaginal lubrication can interrupt the pH level inside the vagina, making it more susceptible to bacterial and yeast infections. These infections are recognized after a watery discharge which can sometimes appear to be red or brown in color, indicating it's mixed with blood.
You should consult a doctor immediately and even though you don't present other symptoms, it's highly recommendable that you seek the nearest clinic or health provider who can help.
Other causes involved in postmenopause discharge includes poor personal hygiene, allergy to certain types of clothing, medications or change in diet.
Before you consult a specialist or in the meanwhile, use water based creams containing estrogen to maintain proper lubrication. Nevertheless, you should speak about it with your doctor.
Seek a health provider and please, keep me updated with your status.
Take care.

Thank you so much.
It's all a bit moot now, as it happened a while back. I went to the gynac and she did the investigations and, like you, concluded it was an infection and gave me anti-biotics.
But your information would be very useful for any future occurrances.
Thanks again!

I'm glad it's nothing serious
