Do I have IBS?

Hello, so this is my first post so I'm a bit unsure about how this works but I've had this problem for a good while now. So I've been suffering with stomach cramps (not in any specific place, just in general and different types) and nausea for about a year now. I have a phobia of vomiting and I also get very stressed but this problem has been bugging me a lot. I have stomach cramps every day of my life and obviously they;re caused by different things because something surely would have happened by now, but is it IBS? I've been to the doctors so many times, and I've been told I have excess acid in my stomach. Then I was told I had IBS by not only a doctor but a Gastosomething specialist. The only symptoms I get are bad nausea and stomach cramps, but occasionally I get diarrhea. About 2 days ago I suddenly got the urge to go to the toilet but I put it down to this certain sauce I had which has upset me before, but since then I've kept on having an off stomach with cramps and bad nausea which has lasted all day. I also have no appetite, and this is all a bit scary because of my phobia. Is this IBS? Does it sound like it? Since my attack 3 days ago I've felt dreadful and I'm really worried about it now. Any help or advice would be great. Thanks.

Did the doctors give you anything for your nausea or stomach cramps? Are you taking anything OTC? Can you eat? Have you lost weight? What tests have the doctors ran? I have the nausea, reflux, and cramps feelings under my rib area, especially the left side. I would just keep going back to the doctors until they find an answer for you. You shouldn't have to suffer! Let me know how you get on. Hugs to youXX

      Hi debbie75601

Ask your doc for a test for HPylori a stomach bacteria that causes the symptoms you mention. It is carried out via stool test, breath test or endoscopy and blood test..personally I would prefer breath or stool test for a diagnosis but ither people prefer blood test or endoscopy........if it is HPylori...in the long term it can cause stomach ulcers......best wishes for a speedy diagnosis....

      Hi debbie75601

If you have HPylori it will show up...then your doc can start treating you for it with anti-biotics .......best wishes..

Thank you Lilian for replying. So tired of antibiotics, probably what got me into this mess to begin with. Wonder if they would do the IV ones, instead of pill form? Well, getting ahead of myself here. Just hoping for a cure, as we all are!

if your dr is right about the excess stomach acid then I would try and eat normally and see if it goes away. an empty stomach will just have excess acid in it swirling around but if you eat the acid will be put to good use digesting your food.

Thankyou for your reply! I'll try and get on with normal eating as much as I can. After all it could always be worse in some way!

Hi Debbie. I'm glad I read ur post. I suffer from the exact same phobia and extreme anxiety from this. I posted a blog as well under phobia. Read it and let me know what you think. You can maybe search my name and see if it comes up that way too.

I'm sorry that you are going thru this as well. This has been my life for a long time...😔...and I've been off work for the past 3 months bc of the severity of it...my mind is constantly focused on every feeling I experience and panic everytime I eat...when I can eat....my digestion has gotten worse bc of excessive anxiety over time. I feel sick if I don't eat and when I do....it's a vicious cycle. I just want to be normal. No matter how many times I try to talk myself out of panic I can't control this. I am aware it's a normal body function but I'm beyond petrified. .. even of gagging....my body has become sensitive to smells and food...my brain will focus on stuff in the past and I've become so terrified it's turned my body off to want to eat. I love food....and can no longer enjoy eating as I used too....I will experience familiar tastes in my mouth which instantly make me feel ill/fluish. ...I know this is all in my head but I can't get a grip on it...it's ruining my life!!!

Look frwd to hearing from you.

Thankyou so much for your reply! It's crazy because every single word you said I can relate to. I can't take any type of tablets or medicine because I'm either worried of gagging, side effects or worried that I'll have some reaction! You wouldn't think this type of phobia could be so life-ruining, but determined to find a way to make it easier at least! I've had a lot of help with it but in my mind I feel like there is literally no way that I'll ever fully get rid of the phobia, so I've decided to work around it and find ways to deal with it better. I can't say it'll work because the only one who understands it is myself and no one else that I know, and if it's down to only me to cure myself then I can't see myself making any progress! I'm my own worst enemy! But having these symptoms along with the phobia just makes it 10 times worse.

Hoping that you'll get through this as well, I'm so glad I read your reply!

It is beyond awful. It's nice to hear of people who understand how debilitating this is. Bc most people don't undersrand the fear and panic associated with it. And bc of the fear it makes us anxious and panicky which causes nausea and in some cases vomiting. 😔.

I feel the exact same way about trying to figure out ways to cope or conquer this however I don't see me getting over it. It's so terrifying. Every gurgle.. movement in my stomach including bowel movements freak me out!! It's ruined my life. Every day is a battle. ...I pretty much depend on clonazepam frequently to calm me down however that too causes me anxiety. Right now I feel chokey and nauseous from it....just trying to focus on playing with my son hoping this passes soon.

Hope you are doing well. Please keep in touch. It's comforting to know there are others that truly understand what we go thru. Did u get a chance to read my blog??

I can 100% relate! I'm so sorry I'm new to this website, how do I view your blog? I'd love to read it because it's great reading about people who understand how you feel. Seems like it's quite rare to know someone in person with the same phobia so the internet is all I have! It's wuite surprising how common the phobia is mind. It's just annoying how not only do we have stomach problems but we have to cope with the phobia as well which makes everyting so much worse. Hope you're well, if you could tell me how to get to your blog that would be great, I'll get the hang of it one day!
