I'm almost 52 and recently had a pelvic ultrasound. I have many fibroids, the largest one about 2 to 2 1/4 inches in diameter. I've also had lower back pain for about 6 months. I've been doing physical therapy regularly. This has helped but I still have back pain issues I suspect is fibroid related. My physical therapist suspects the same. She says I am strong and it seems my body is tightening to protect something. My gynecologist said that my only option is a full hysterectomy. He also says that my back pain is unrelated to my uterus since I experience more pain on the right side and not in the middle of my back. I have two questions: 1) Is a full hysterectomy my only option due to the ubiquity and size of my fibroids? 2) Could the fibroids be causing my back pain even though the pain in largely on the right side? I'm not experiencing irregular bleeding and I'm still having regular periods.

Good luck with your physical therapy, I hope that is the cure instead of a hysterectomy, which is a pretty major surgery.
Best wishes.
