ear infection

I've had an inner ear infection about 2 weeks Ago where my dr prescribed me with antibiotics saying it was bacterial. After I took my course of antibiotics he said my eustachian tubes were Still blocked and gave me decongestant tablets and nasal spray. When I went back to the drs he said my tubes are slowly opening up but said he will refer me to an ENT just in case. I have ringing in my left ear and slowly am able to hear. All up today its been 3 weeks.

Will this go away? My appointment with the Ent is still 4 weeks away

Don't get ears syringed only let ENT fiddle with ears ,as you say you've now got,may well be onset to tinnitus ,so just be carefully to any meds ,as this can make matters worse ,the word you want to read up on explains this is Ototoxicity .Ive got tinnitus ,so check it out ,my tubes are blocked ETD ,ears hissing ,so protect your ears as best you can is my best advice ,yours may well stop ,I hope it does .Push to get that ENT app ,but read up knowledge is a powerful thing ,when it comes to ears .Hope all works out well .

Thanks Marlene dr said it will eventually go away but the ringing started 4 days ago I just hope it goes away. Unfortunately it's the earliest appointment I can get to see an Ent specialist.  My dizziness is slowly faded too. I researched labrynthitis not sure if I have that or not. It's just so confusing.

Yes Dianne didn't see you had app 4 weeks time at ENT ,I to have balance issue for past 3 yrs ,,so as your has just started it may well just stop before ENT ,but even if it has do keep that app ,no harm 2nd opinion in my view .

Blocked tubes will put your balance out ,sometimes it will give you fuzzy eyes ,but if you get that,Big If. That's your Eustachian tubes again .

ENT will give you hearing test ,normal procedure . Yes I agree confusing it is ,try keeping ears dry ,no water to enter . Let me know how things go ,don't worry to much ,but just take care of those ears stay out of drafts etc ,wear a hat in cold windy days .protect them ,only little things ears ,but there delicate all the same ,which we forget .No sudden movements for your balance .things I've learnt Dianne since I got it ?Can just be simple infection ,now't else .

Anyone's guess Dianne  things stop and start at will ,don't mess with them at all,A nasal spray can clear it but won't happen over night things never do. .

Don't do any thing like the Valsava manouevre ,chap I talk to says that started his Tinnitus off ,from simply having blocked ears ,so personally I'd forgo doing that .Id leave it to your ENT ,try and cope till then ,not easy ,but I'd hate to hear another ending up with tinnitus ,don't wear head music ear phones another thing .If you still have this ringing going at all keep within noise levels to match what your hearing IE the ringing .just a month might seem long time but it will pass fairly quickly ,but keep that ENT whatever .

What I would say you can try won't harm ears ,is try a warm cloth upto ear as you say dr said blocked tube .that may loosen it up ,but anything else I'd forget it honest .

Ive been told to use my nasal spray once daily and boil water to let steam up my nose.... I also try and breathe in and pinch my nose and gently blow no improvement.  It sucks I just want it gone I know it's been 3 weeks but I feel as though im panicking that it wont ever go away.

What your doing is the Valsalva ,I wouldn't do it myself as you've had that ear ringing ,even if it s going .More you panic worse it becomes .Keeping busy is the key ,distraction is what you need ,go out walking ,Exercise will keep the panic down.It will go just think it ,imagine it going .Look up mindfulness .thats good to do ,it's like meditation ,it's calming .Stressing not the answer to it at all .You in UK ? Dianne .

I seem to be posting this on a few threads but Dymista nasal spray has cured my 12 weeks of ETD in just a few days, plus I was using an electric earpopper (from Boots).

I was extremely anxious and depressed about the noise in my right ear every day, a loud humming. Ask you doc about the spray, it may work if your sinus was the cause.

      Hi Jon

Went back to the drs they said my left eardrum was still inflammed and the infection hadnt cleared up so im back on antibiotics.  Dr said my right ear I have ETD but it will clear up with antibiotics she said im getting better as I haven't needed to rely on my dizzy tablets.  So fingers crossed

My 1st Doc gave me antibiotics.

The 1st ENT gave me Canesten ear drops,

    The 2nd gave me Valium

The 3rd signed me up to a tinnitus support group and organised an MRI

The 4th found it was my sinus

The 5th gave me the camera up the nose and Dymista, and CT scan(yesterday)

If the tubes are blocked then antibiotics wont have any effect apparently.

She said I should have taken antibiotics for longer than what the other dr said.

Left ear still infected and right ear tube is opening but will get better

Hopefully it'll all be well, but if it doesn't clear up then think about looking into the options I mentioned, it coud save you months or years of misery. smile

Jon,thanks for that Dimista advice ,will get some ,I suffer from tinnitus and rhinitis ,which gives me severe earaches ,Eustachian tubes blocked ,plus I've got eczema inside ears daily  hence I in turn have balance trouble ,nothing had helped ,but this Dimista not tried .Hope this clears my tubes up ,and I can move around more .

Dymista is prescription only I think. You should aso look into the electric ear popper EP-2100 from Boots, that really helped me get the tubes open.
