Eye Problems and dealing with the psychological impact

Hi all

in general Ive noticed some of you are suffering wtih anxiety, depression and all sorts of emotional impact in relation to the eye issues you have. Im fighting a hard struggle with anxiety and bouts of feeling very very despondent. Just wonderin has anyone gone for a particular type of therapy/counselling that they found helpful. Im finding it hard to accept all this , not to mention some days dealing with the physical pain.....

Hi I certainly felt depressed and despondent while i was unable to see properly. The consultant explained to me that any problems with the eyes affects all aspects of our lives.and while it seemed no progress was being made i was very low. Fortunately after 3 operations and more treatment my sight improved and i therefore did not require therapy as my spirits improved accordingly. I hope you get some resolution soon.

    Thanks Theresa,

well at least the consultant acknowledged that, I think its hard for anyone to really understand unless they have experienced eye problems....and I know theres always someone worse off when it comes to health....

I know exactly what u mean. Everyone around me act as if it is no big deal and no specialist or doctors suggest therapy etc.

I know there are therapists specializing in chronic illnesses and what theu do or say i dunno

Yea but when youre suffering it certainly is a big deal and when what was normal to you is now gone its very hard to deal with and accept...Some people mentioned "mindfullness" , or meditation, I might give them a try....

Over40, I agree, people have no comprehension of what youre goin through and  I feel a lot of people believe my issues are due to laser eye surgery but I know in my heart and soul they are not. Its almost 7 years since I had it and never had a moments bother, pain or discomfort of any kind. Have you tried any particular therapy yourself?

Meditation involves sitting with your eyes closed. It can also be an amazing healing method for depression and anxiety if you can stick with it. No quick results, but when results come it affects every aspect of your life. A great inward adventure, perfect for those of us with eye problems!

Yea, Sus, youre spot on, if it was pain or soreness in any other part of the body its easier to ignore but your eyes are at the fore of everything ye do. Im findin it a struggle and have no motivation to do normal things. Only comfort you get is when youre asleep in bed....
