face swelling gabapentin withdrawal??

I've been looking for some answers and have run across quite a bit of withdrawal symptoms, but haven't heard anything about facial swelling once OFF gabapentine.  i'm on a slew of other ones - lamictal, trileptal, estradiol and vyvanse... my doc didn't get in my gabapentin prescription soon enough and i ended up running out.  it was maybe like 2 days after running out that i noticed shortly before bed that my right lower jaw was swollen.  i didn't think anything about the meds, since this is now the 2nd time i've had face swelling... but after the itching and many other symptoms, i'm thinking not being on it might be the culprit.  i finally was able to start back up again today on them, i took 1 and feel tremendously better (i've been on it for 5 yrs, weaned down to 600 mg at night only).  has anyone else experienced almost like an allergic reaction without it??

My doc advised me that Gabapentin takes time to build up in your system sometimes up to 2 weeks but I found that it helped me immediately for sciatica pain. It is never wise to abruptly stop taking any medication unless your doctor advises so. I am pretty sure that I have gained weight since starting on the medication but have not noted any adverse reactions when I weaned myself off a few years ago. I started taking it again prior to hip replacement last summer and found that it really helps with migraines as well. I try to keep it to 200 mgs. 3 times a day.

I haven't but while on 2400mgs, through the day and night, coincidence or not, I woke one morning with terrible mouth pain and within a year had to have all my teeth pulled because of a totally abscesses mouth! I'm 49! I was so overweight and read that neurontin cause weight gain. I weaned to just taking 600 at night and going to stay there because of neuropathy in my legs. (Calves)

I lost over 70 pounds . Weaning the neurontin? Mouth pain? Or combination. Have you been to a dentist? Feel better soon!??

I went through that a couple years back.. i had terrible mouth pain and couldn't pinpoint which tooth it was.  i had thought it was a certain one on the bottom and had a root canal done - then went back bc the pain hadn't gotten any better. he ended up pulling that one, and the pain continued.  i thought i was the next tooth, so he was gonig to do a root canal on that one too. he couldn't get it to freeze.  he finally gave up and was at a loss, so sent me to a specialist.  it turns out i have trigeminal neuralgia!  once put on trileptal, the pain went away... i was off the gabapentin at this time (was taking it for headaches), and didn't need it until i tore ligments in my ankle (among other problems) and develped chronic regional pain syndrome in it.  with the combo of gaba and trileptal, i was doing really good.  i would love to be able to get off all the pills i'm on, but idk if it's ever going to be possible. the doctor says no.

how long have you been on gabapentin?  i can't believe the number of people that gained weight while on it.  sometimes i wonder if drugs are pushed without truly knowing the side effects. i was taking topamax and ended up losing so much weight i was under 90 lbs. the pharmacist knew better the reaction i was having from topamax than the doctor herself!!! I wish you the best of luck, I hope that the 600 is enough for you at night, and your pain is in control!  i'm glad you were able to wean down to that dose. that much seems to work for me at night too.  Best of luck!!!

Cynthia, I was going to ask if anyone on here noticed a weight gain since being on gabapentin...you answered it for me!

i was doing so well with my weight and after starting gabapentin no matter how much I was eating small portions and a very healthy diet I began to gain weight. So, you lost weight after weaning down on your dose? Sorry, I'm just at a loss...looking for info.
