Fibromyalgia symptoms?!!.

Posted , 7 users are following.

Hi all I have suffered with migranes for probably 20+ years. For the last 10 months I have had added symptoms, espicially around my neck and shoulder, it's now becoming very frequent ( I know that I have not pulled any muscles) it helps when I have a heat patch on it but have also read that this could be making the symptom worse!??. I have asked my GP about fibromyalgia and I get fobbed off saying this will go soon?. I also get very a chichi all over where I feel like I have ran a marathon the day before. I used to get these symptoms every so often BUT are now very frequent at least every week. I'm currently takin Propanolol daily and was takin Sumertription but have had a change and put on Zomig!!. Do you think it could be fibromyalgia anyone? Feedback is very much appreciated thanks.

    Hi Michelle

With Migraines you are best to have caffeine free drinks and not have cheese.

Or you could have cheese in moderation.

Your other symtoms could be Fibromyalgia if you get no joy from Gp get him to send you to RA Clinic to see a Consultant who will do tests to find out if you have fibro.

Hi Michelle, I have had migraines for around 35 yrs. originally I used to take over the counter medications. The past ten years I have been on naratripten/naramig. I think I started with fibro 6yrs ago, although I've only had a diagnosis for a little under a yr.

Almost 5yrs ago I was hospitalised with an excruciating one sided head pain  and I was unable to move any part of my right side and it was thought that I had had a stroke. After having a ct it was determined that I had had a heamaplegic migraine, which meant nothing to me at all. I had spent a total of two wks in hospital and none of the Drs or nurses, apart from a neurologist who had diagnosed me over the phone, had any idea what it was either. I was discharched with an appointment to see the neurologist, from a different hospital, at home physio and a prescription for amatriptalin. I had to do my own research and could find nothing that matched the severity or length of time that I was experiencing these symptoms.

when I finally saw the neurologist he explained that it was a rare type of migraine and even rarer to have the severity and length of time that I had presented with. he believes it's down in part to some of the medications I was on and still are on but that I was also genetically likely to develop them.

since then I've had 5 of them, although the one I'm experiencing at the moment isn't as severe and I have had a two and a half year break. It's since been said that the fibromyalgia may have had some impact but all of the triggers are there anyway. Tiredness, pain, not eating quite as regularly as I should, so it's difficult to know what are ordinary triggers and what is down to fibro given there is such a crossover of what can make both conditions worse.

i think the bottom line is, if you think your migraines are getting worse, talk to your GP. There are neurologist that specialise in migraines and some hold specific clinics just for migrain sufferers.

Whatever the cause is I hope you get the support you need and I really hope I didn't freak you out with my story. By the way I have numerous conditions, not just fibro and migraine which added to the severity.

good luck and take care xx

I couldn't say there are several things that have similar symptoms as Fibro. There is a Fibro test , although it is new many physicians do not use it yet, many use the push and pull on the target places if so many hurt out of so many you are diagnosed with Fibro. Everyone has different symptoms. I just recently got diagnosed with this label , although I do no aot accent a l;abel without a cause or cure. To me it is the easy way to get the paitent out of the office. I am on several meds and they get incresed each visit and nothing changes but the pain and symptoms and side effects. It is funny because you mention migranes , I had battled with them in my twenties (wearing sunglasses indoors and foil on the windows) I tried everything including the 9 dollar pill that made the migranes worse. Vomitting was the only to get rid of them. My oldest had the same headaches when he was 8-12 years old and vomitting was the only way.

    Good luck !

    Hi Michelle

Yes, I can relate to what you are saying. Must be for at least 15 years now I have had about three or four days at a time of what I could only describe as a chill. Aches all over and a general feeling of unwellness. These episodes gradually got more and more frequent, and the aches more severe. I still get them, but now it's on top of other pains associated with fibro. I just have to be really careful not to overdo things as that never helps. And yes I get headaches too quite a lot, I put it down to osteoarthritis in my neck and of course fibro in general rolleyes

I used to have nasty migraines and only got rid of them by throwing up once I had thrown up I was better.  But if I get one again now I won,t be able to throw up.  In January I had a Nissen's Fundoplication operation.  Where they wrapped the top half of my stomach around my oesophagus and routed everything one way only.  I had a bad stomach the other week and felt really sick but I can't physically be sick

so my Gp has had to give me Promethazine to combat this problem.

I know this isn't helpful but it's just as likely to be fibro as it is that the migraines are causing an extreme strain from your occipital lobes down through your neck and shoulders as it is that a previous trauma from years ago has slowly over time extended until the pressure around a specific vertebrae can't take it anymore.

The most helpful thing I can tell you is to see another doctor. I have been dealing with this too long, there is something seriously wrong with the medical field and life is too short to have your concerns blown off. If this doctor doesn't care, see someone else until you find someone who will listen to your concerns and at least help you rule things out with diagnostic tests.
