After years of having depression (probably my whole life) i decided to start my tablets for the second time. Within an hour or so of taking it, i began to feel very nauseous and my anxiety and paranoia got worse. Any info i recieve would be great. Thanks

well done for taking the first step in getting yourself better. The first couple of weeks can be eextremely difficult, whilst your body is trying to accept, balance and stabilise the citalopram.
nausea, dizziness, tremors, stomach probs, and sweating are all very common. My anxiety hit the roof for the first few days.
stick with it charmcat these side effects will ease in intensity and will dissappear over a couple of weeks .
If you feel up to it keep us updated on your progress.
God bless xx

I have to take over 30 tablets a day, in 5 sessions. My anti-depressant I take mid-afternoon with a couple of Rich Tea biscuits.
You should never take any tablets on an empty stomach, some will cause your stomach lining to become thinner.
I have to split my tablets up because I am Class "A" medication, one in the morning with Paracetamols, one at night with food just before bedtime.
I did what you done once, and then someone told me, to take them after food like Claudia recommended - so, yes I would agree with her.
There are some tablets that still cause you to feel sick, so my doctor suggested I changed them to SR (slow-release), it just means the medication stays at a high level most of the time before you take the next. Again, I always take with food - because I was told after being prescribed them, they can damage your liver! Nice to know, so now I have scans every 6 months on my liver.
Most tablets now state to take either with food or after, only on rare occassions will you see to take before food.
BTW, a Happy New Year!
Regards,
Les.

I think you may find things a little rocky in the first couple of weeks. Ideally if possible you should take a couple of weeks off from work. I think you may find it impossible to function properly for the first week or so. I am not trying to unnerve you, but catalopram takes time to balance out in your body. Side effects can be quite unpleasant and exhausting in the first two weeks. In saying that I'm hoping you are one of the lucky few that don't get any.
be kind to yourself and rest as much as possible.
God bless x

if you plan to stay with this med you need to take the proper dose. The only reason i say that is, every time you increase its like starting over again, which means you will get side effects again. I think the less times you go through this the better. If you have been prescribed 10mg I would take them to get the side effects over with! I know it's scary but once the side effects pass.... you will start to feel the benefits xxx

the diazepam won't make you feel out of it...They just mellow you out a bit. I have just taken one as having a terrible time today. For me taking one is the difference between coping and not coping lol!
Hope you have a good day ahead xxx

yes you are right I am in the UK. My doctor prescribes diazepam for me when I'm either increasing my dose, or changing antidepressant. It's only prescribed for the settling in period to assist in managing any unpleasant initial side effects. I seem to get them all!! My gp will only prescribe 14 tablets at 2mg. But they have been my life saver! I only take when feeling absolutely desperate. Like today :-(
Hope you are doing okay?
God bless x

There are often a few hiccups on the first few days week whilst the meds get into the system right now there is possibly a paradox going on which is unsettling I remember taking them for the first time and thinking whoa this is worse man real bad anxiety but after a few days I started feeling beeter had quite a few side effects at first but these days 7 months later i'm just like I used to be happy and enjoying the trip of life! You will too have faith and stay positive having a focused mind will help the bummer days hang in there and keep us posted ho it going! Â

I am on my 20th day feeling a bit better i stopped taking the 2 phenergen at night as i was waking up shaky and dizzy and acid reflux. I was good for about 2 weeks i think the Escitalopram kicked in then and the interaction with Phenergen was not good. I had a temazepan 10mg last night  took a little while to work, a little bit wired this moring but not sick and dizzy,so had some meditation and went to Bridge and all good. I really dont want to rely on sleeping tablets so have to go easy. I might even try walking again this arvo. Happy New Year to you all.
