First period after myomectomy

Hi all

It was 2 weeks yesterday since I had my open myomectomy and this morning I woke with the worst period pains ever!! 😫

My tummy hurts so much particular at the sides of my scar and my back....if it hurt before, now it's seriously hurting!!! Is this normal??? Did anyone else experience this? Is it a one off because my op is still fresh or will my period always be like this from now on? I'm in agony and keep bursting into tears 😪

Thanks

Thank you. I've sent an email to my consultant to check. Hopefully it's just because its fresh after op. Mind you my friend who had a c section told me that now when she gets her period she has terrible back pain due to the epidural they gave her.

well thats goood you have someone to contact.  hopefully it will just be the 1st one that is like this. I was dreading my 1st one, and it happened the day after the surgery while i still had the catheter in , so was very ackward. So far these 2 have been better than the heavy ones i had b4. They used to be painful but then started taking apple cidar vinger everyday for a year, and the pain eased (just a splash of vinegar in some water and down it lol)

I think I would have preferred mine straight after surgery as I was dosed up on strong meds lol

      With a catheter in though...eek!

      Fingers crossed then.

      Thanks

Hey, I had a myeomectomy last year. If I'm honest my first period was very light and a total breeze, however my seconf period was 14 days of agony exactly as you described. I think it is normal, but I totally sympathse it is not fun. However each time after that I think it just got a little less painful. It shouldn't get any worse. Just sorry to hear that you're suffering.

The good news is it should ease off a little. I hope that helps x x

Thanks so much Bek. I used to suffer from really painful periods when I was younger then they got a bit better. The last few have been bearable but this has knocked me out. I've been in bed all day. My back feels broken sad

      Fingers crossed they get easier.

Sorry to hear that you are in a lot of pain.Have you  tried a hot water bottle ?

I had many painful periods when I was younger but I can honestly say that is one advantage to having a hysterectomy is saying goodbye to your periodsI.

Yes I have to use a heat pack twice a day anyway as I have some blood that has collected behind my scar and formed a lump sad

Hopefully it will all rectify itself.

I agree with Theresa. A hot water bottle was really helpful and I'll admit I relied a lot on painkillers.

It is a big op and your body needs time to heal and recover. Just look after yourself and don't over do it x x

Hi there, I hope by now you are having much better periods.

I had the very same issues with my first period after myomectomy and was so upset with my doctor has I thought things would get much better after the surgery instead of getting worst...however, things did get better with each monthly period.

Sooooo so happy I did my myo.

I'm in my 3rd week post op. I had my myomectomy 3/29/2017. Yesterday I started cramping, heavy bleeding and clots. I'm an older lady who is still hoping to be a mom. I'm so happy I found this forum and to hear other women have had the same thing. CONGRATS on your baby.

I had my myomectomy done on the 29th of March too. I had very little bleeding and pain post op. I didn't even need to take any narcotics from the time I got discharged on the first. My period was due to start on the 31st of March, not sure if it did start or it was post op bleeding. My period started today, and I am experiencing the worst cramping ever, more pain than I experienced after my surgery. The period is not heavy but I do experience some gushing once in a while, and there are some clots. The cramping really scared me, I did consider going to the emergency room. Then I decided to search online and find out other people's experiences with their first period. I have been taking pain killers. Hopefully the next period will be better. I will call my doctor in the morning just to make sure I am not overlooking anything that could be wrong.

Thank you so much for th e words of support. My period stopped for 2 days after bleeding for 14 days. Unfortunately I did need a blood transfusion. I went backto my ddoctor's office today and she prescribed something to stop the bleeding. I believe my issue is due to hormone imbalance. I plan to rectify this as quickly as possible.

Hi there! I am in the same boat as well! I am about 4 weeks post myomectomy and just got my second period (my first was right after the surgery so it was hard to tell exactly what was period and what was post-op bleeding). Anyway, I am having excrutiating cramping! Waaaay worse then I had before the myo and worse than the surgery pain. Ugghhh. I also had the myo in hopes of becoming a mom (and am an older lady too). Hoping this gets better soon! So nice to know there are others going through similar situations. Hope yoh are feeling well!

Hi. I need your help. I had a myomectomy 28 days ago and for the last 8 days I have had heavy bleeding and clots. How many days did your heavy bleeding last? Please, help me. Thank you.

My lst period after my myomectomy was very heavy with clots as well. I bled for about 2 week with bad cramps and it came on twice. The following month it tapered off and I am now back to my pre-fibroid cycle of 3-4 days with few less painful cramps and sometimes no cramps at all. Hope this helps!

      Hi Gabi,

I had my open myomectomy on Oct 4. My first period came Oct 7 and lasted for 4 days. I was in pain from the surgery so it was difficult for me to determine if the pains were period pains. I'm allergic to almost every med so I had to bear my pain. I also didnot have an epidural and i would recommend Noone to that if offered. I didnot have much bleeding...maybe for two days of heavier bleeding. I have since had two periods, which came on time for a change. The last period was painful...cramps were horrid!!!! Also clots. Back pains are also horrid. I believe that internally I'm not fully healed hence the pains. I use alot of vitamin E, lavender butter and castor oil treatments for the scar and hot and cold therapy to help with the swelling and internal clot prevention. It takes time. My tummy to date is still swollen above the incision but gone down considerably. My dilemma now is I developed vertigo...believe me it's worse than the surgery! ! LOL Any advice on that would be helpful. I can't get an appointment with an ear throat specialist until next year...SMH. Have an MRI appointment to determine what's happening in my inner ear. Good luck with your healing, lots of fluid, i also drank beet juice, cucumber juice and porridge with Chia seed to help with bowel movements. Going to pee and poo was painful. Good luck..try relax the mind
