Frozen Shoulder

Hi

I've been experiencing chronic pain due to frozen shoulder since a little over a year now.  I tried steroid injection, massage, exercises and physiotherapy for 3 months but absolutely no respite.  The steroid injection gave me relief for just a month after which the shooting pain sensations returned. Physiotherapy has done no good other than create a large hole in my pocket.  In fact, the combination of physiotherapy, exercise and massage made my condition worse than any good as it made my arm sore and more painful. I think I delayed my cure by 6 months because of it.  I have heard of Calmare therapy to remove pain.  This is what the website promoting it says:

"A 'no-pain' message is transmitted to the nerve via disposable surface electrodes applied to the skin in the region of the patient's pain. The perception of pain is cancelled when the no-pain message replaces that of pain, by using the same pathway through the surface electrodes in a non-invasive way. Regardless of pain intensity, a patient's pain can be completely removed for immediate relief.

Maximum benefit is achieved through follow-up treatments. The patient may be able to go for extended periods of time between subsequent treatments while experiencing significant pain control and relief. The period of time between treatments depends on the underlying cause and severity of the pain in addition to other factors."

Please advise if anybody has had this treatment before and how beneficial its use has been?

no experience of this sorry - had to have key-hole surgery myself for both shoulders. but this condition is very complex.  if you broke your leg would you look for a solution online? i think having your gp aware of how this affects your whole lofe, mental health etc is far more useful - get the best care you can. good luck. we all sympathise.

I think the internet is a good tool but can also give false hope. I was told in my worst painful momenr, that a frozen shoulder does eventually go away, it may take 3 years without treatment, or less with treatment. At the moment i had physio last night, and am in so much pain...its like a clock and when it reaches 12 o'clock the wave hits. I feel like punching the specialist, surgeon, Gp and everyone at work in the face....cos they all say oh does it hurt!!!

Anyway, if you go ahead and look it up then please let us all know about it..x

hi I'm in the same boat as I have my second FS in 2 years! I've responded to other discussions so I've gone over the same symptoms etc....however I would like to mention the things that I've found helpful, agreed it's them! Most painful thing I've experienced...the hydro dilation I had eventually after the Frozen stage...really did work even though it was  a difficult procedure...wearing a sling support even at night to stop my arm from moving around & heat pads..pillow support.. Ibuprofen gel, & a real surprise to increase my water intake...had a noticeable effect!(trust me on this one I had to work it out by trial error & many sleepless nights in pain) Any hints of how to alleviate pain in a practical way...most welcome..physio aggrevated  the pain acupuncture or oesteopathy didn't really help.  Been there done it and bought the t shirt as they say!cant believe my luck getting a second FS...I would agree with other comments re it being hormone related.

good luck and hoping for a few hours sleep...fingers crossed! I dread the night as its so so much worse! This is such a tough condition & unless you've had it no one appreciates the agony it causes physically & mentally!

Hi louise, you say the hydrodilitation was difficult, in what way? Im waiting to have it, my physio says its going to hurt a lot, but the surgeom/specialist sd it will be uncomfortable not painful. I jusy need to know pls. Wearing s sling support - where did you get this from as i wanted one but have been told not to wear one. To be honest it would be good when i go out to stop people hugging me. Knocking me or pattinge on the shoulder!!! I had physio yesterday and have been in constant pain all day....im now resting in bed with a heat pad, ive taken 2 codeine so that i can sleep for a while too.

      Take care. X

I am really worried now, I wasn't before. I am going to have hydrodilation 18th May, have been told it won't be painful and it will work, I will have to have physio 2 day afterwards they were making light of it all. I was told if I did not have it my shoulder would never get better. Mine apparantly is not a true frozen shoulder, as it was caused by a fall. I have only been told this on Monday. Have had it for 4 months, Does anybody know what they are talking about in the health profession?????

Alison. Im sorry if we havr worried you,but im having it as its the best thing to cure a frozen shoulder well 98% success rate, so im going for it asap, i was supposed to have it this week bit put back to june now. I know its going to hurt but am still having it. Some people say its unpleasant and feels weird, strange and heavy aching feeling. but just remember it will be better than pain we have all been getting with a fs. xxx. Im going to get something from doc to take. The reason im so scared is because i had steroid injection with a larger amount of saline than normal and the specialist that did it was, according to my daughter watching, shoving the needle in and out and like turning a screwdriver....But the specialist i have seen that is organising the hydro said theres will be one injection and all liquid will go through the one needle so no jabbing or moving it. So im happy with that. I just want use of my arm. X let me know how it goes. Good luck. X

Hi Debbie...In terms of the difficult, I meant extremely painful, just trying to be a bit diplomatic as I'm aware that people like yourself, maybe awaiting the same treatment. Though I am definitely insisting on the same Asap! Without doubt it worked, and this time, I'm going to ask for a very strong painkiller which may have to be prescribed by my GP I'm not sure about that. The sling made absolute sense for a support, I checked with my physio who agreed and he said I could if I wanted buy one off the Internet as whatever allevites the pain makes sense to me., he also said with excercise it should be gentle and in no way aggrevated the shoulder nerves etc, if so to stop and rest as much as possible ....but still use your arm obviously! this is meant to be a non permanent condition, then all we can do is deal with the symptoms, and I would not interfere surgically as in my opinion I maybe making it worse long term.....the tip about drinking more water it seems silly but it has some positive effect....and so easy to do alongside painkillers!

hope that helps answer your queries & good luck!
