Hello. I am not looking for answers right now, I am trying to provide some light at the end of the tunnel for some people who feel there is nothing left to do. I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease in December 2013 after being in the Emergency Room (October 2013) and then going to doctor after doctor explaining to them that something was wrong with me. They kept telling me that I had a stomach bug. Finally, my boss took me to urgent care and they found that I had a hyperthyroid. Anyway, my doctor at the time placed me onto methimizole and said that if it does not "fix" my thyroid, I would have to do surgery or radiation. These were not an option in my opinion. I was on methimizole for about two months and I gained about 40 pounds. After that, I started reading forums about other people with the same issues as myself.
I decided to talk to a natural medicine doctor and get a second opinion. That is when he did a food alergy test on me and foudn that I am allergic to Gluten, Pineapple, Lima Beans and most types of meats (excluding chicken and fish). I cut out all of these foods and within two months, ALL of my thyroid labs were normal. This is something that took me a year to find out, when it could have been so easy. I know that everyboydy's bodies are different, but it is worth sharing my story so others can try more than just a pharmacutical. The Methimizole wasn't even changing my thyroid labs, and with just a change in what I bought at the grocery store (ultimately spending less in food), I was able to cure my Graves' Disease on my own. I talked with my regular doctor about all of this and she did not believe me and said that it was the Methimizole. Little did she know that I had not been taking my medication for weeks. Please feel free to ask me any questions as I have been dealing with this for the majority of three years and it is a struggle every day.
