Looking back over a year symptoms grew slowly, started with blocked nose that never got bothered with by the doctor, very shortly after that, shortness of breath, followed by bloated tummy, huge at times, then three months ago one day I was eating fine the next day appetite completely gone, and thats how it has stayed till today.Because of eating very little lost one and a half stone over the three months,my ribs are quite visible now, only small framed to begin with, also in last few months developed uncomfortable feeling upper mid abdomen, not painfull. The last two weeks have force fed myself to stay at or just under eight stone, its been so miserable, also had nausea, which of late has dissapeared. How are you today? I hope you are well and looking after your self.Take care

Dear, i have similar symptoms with yours, even though am still in omeprazole. I was instructed to take it for 8 weeks.

Sometimes the burning sensation will come even up to my upper chest, and i will tremble. The worst part is that i have completely lost my appetite and lost weight.

This is worrying me alot being the fact that am a single mom and my son is 4 years old, and taking care of him with this illness is somehow tiring.

      But God is my strength.

Pls tell me how did your ulcer go completely!!!

Hi Tasta, H. pylori infection is one of the common causes of gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer and gastritis. Only antacid treatment cannot cure peptic ulcer caused by H. pylori. Successful treatment of H. pylori can help the ulcer to heal, prevent ulcers from coming back, and reduce the risk of ulcer complications. Two antibiotics (e.g. metronidazole and clarithromycin) along with proton pump inhibitor (e.g. Lansoprazole) are generally recommended as a treatment for 14 days; this reduces the risk of treatment failure and antibiotic resistance.

There are increasing numbers of patients with H. pylori infection that is resistant to antibiotics so it is important to take all the medications prescribed and to have a test that confirms that the infection has been cleared. So please complete advised course of treatment and confirm by investigations that your infection has cleared.

You have not mentioned, how many days have you taken antibiotics and whether you were taking Lansoprazole during antibiotic therapy. You might have chronic ulcer, as your physician has recommended Lansoprazole. Long term treatment of proton pump inhibitor reduces acid secretion in the stomach, which may result in indigestion and diarrhoea.

Hi and thank you for all the info you have kindly given me.I was only diagnosed 24/07/14,via endescope,no ulcers.Tommorow I start my medication,Metrondonzle twice daily, clarithromycin twice daily, and every 12 hours. This is over one week.So really do not understand having to take the ppi for three months,I do not get acid reflux or indigestion as such.Again many thanks

Hi Tasta, metronidazole can result in gastric irritation and gastritis. Antacid is generally given to reduce gastric irritation. Standard treatment recommended for H. pylori include two antibiotics and PPI for 14 days. I think that's why PPI is given to you, but I am not sure why it is recommended for 3 months. Please consult your physician for that. One more thing I want to ask, if you do not have an ulcer, then why endoscopy was performed? Was H pylori infection detected accidentally?

I was having a uncomfortable feeling in upper abdomen,my doctor said there might be something nasty growing in my tummy,I instantly thought cancer, was sent for endescope, nothing was found or to be seen,no cancer. But he did a test on lipmus paper I think,he showed me it and told me that it is showing H Pylori. He must have tested from the biopsies he took,So now waiting biopsy results.Did wonder why he took biopsies four in all.I am a born worrier.Thank you for kindly replying

If the normal treatment is for 14 days, why have I only got a course for 7 days?Need to speak to my doctor I think

Hi Tasha, blood test (to detect specific antibodies), urea breath test or stool test is generally done to diagnose H pylori infection. Biopsy might have done to detect any abnormality in your stomach; it is generally done during endoscopy for further diagnosis. So don't be worried. Due to the risk of failure, multiple drug treatment is recommended for 10-14 days for H pylori and after completing H. pylori treatment, repeat testing is usually recommended to ensure that the infection has resolved. Please consult your physician and confirm whether 7 day treatment is sufficient and ensure that H pylori infection has resolved after completion of the treatment.

      Hi Tasha,

Sorry to hear you feel so unwell. I was diagnosed with hpylori beginning of June. Give triple pak 2 amoxicillin 1 clairithromyacin and Ppi for 7 days . I too felt weak, ill, nausea, and loss lots of weight. It was confirmed by a blood test. I am still not feeling good. Had a biopsy endoscopy that said it was negative . Another doctor recommend I do a breath test- did that last Thursdsy .. Waiting to hear if it's eradicated.... What I read is usually when there's hpylori there's other nasty bacteria or fungus - candida albican.. Are you eating ?? Audreu

Hi Tasha, I was diagnosed with H pylori just over a year ago with an endoscopy. I don't have an ulcer either and had biopsies taken but nothing found only inflammation and H-pylori. I was on 2 different antibiotics and lansoprazole. I felt better for a couple of months but I am not sure if it is back. I rang my Dr yesterday and asked for a test to make sure. She said they will do a stool test but I will have to stop the lansoprazole for 2 weeks before they do the test. I am on lansoprazole for a hiatus hernia as well, so will have to cope without it althogh it is good for the acid.

      Hope you feel better soon!

I am so sorry your having all these problems,Evidently the stool test is the best test to have to see if H Pylori is eradicated.I feel so sorry for all who have this nasty bug,so many are suffering so much pain,so maybe I should count my blessings. It is all so weird, one day I was eating normally, the next day complete loss of appetite, and been that way for nearly four months.I hope this second round of medication works. Will keep my fingers crossed for you and hope it is not back, take care

Oh that's too bad ...I bet your stomach hurts. What  antibiotics are you on now ?

For how long ? Are you taking probiotics ?

I ate small meals but not much... It's been 2onths and my stomach is still off ... I go to a naturopath to help with nutrition ... Drink protein shakes ... My thyroid went off probably due to the stress of feeling ill... How long have you been sick ? What tests do you use for hpylori ??? I did a breath test last Thursday ...to make sure. Hope to find out tomorrow .... Audrey

I take clarythromicin one tablet twice a day,Amoxcillin two tablets twice a day,and lansoprozole twice daily.Had a course of flagyl and clarithromycin over 7 days, this new course again over 7 days.Yes I have been taking probiotics.Just feel it never will go away.I had to have a endescopy, and biopsies were taken, but the doctor told me straight away that I had H Pylori. From what I have read the most efficient form of testing to make sure it is gone is via a stool test. Now been four months since this started, although about 5 weeks ago I lost my appetite instantly, been going down hill since then. When do you get your results,I hope that you find it has gone.Thank you for kindly replying

Oh I hope you and I will not have to do Ntibiotics again . Yes I have heard that too... Stool testing is the best test . My GP believes it's an endoscopy ... I had that done and it said negative .  But I want to be sure so I did the breath test ( my breath is horrid and I think I am still

Working on solving my guy flora...I think I am dealing with candida from

Antibiotics ... I am going to do a stool

Test this week as well. To have everything check out in my digestive system... I am from Canada .. Doing a test in the USA...

      Are you weak?

Hi Tasha, I have lost weight, but It could be because of the hiatus hernia as well when that plays up. I eat because I know I have to, but sometimes I don't feel like eating. I keep an eye on my weight because I don't want to lose anymore. I will be glad to have the test. Good luck with the meds.

Hi doc and everyone else that gave great advice and comfort.I am now three weeks from finishing a two week course of antibiotics/lansoprazole.The lansoprazole makes my tummy hurt more, but have to keep taking it for two more months,my problem with no appetite still remains, which is very worrying,am so tired of force feeding every day,my nausea has gone, uncomfortable feeling in upper abdomen gone, but replaced by intermittent slight pain, cramps.Just been to see my doctor mostly about my loss of weight and non existant appetite,my body feels very weak, bones are prominent now, very skinny,I am managing to keep between a 116 pounds and 118.I did have small windows where I did feel like eating, but that has now gone,My doctor says it could be my stomach needs time to heal, but is referring me back to a specialist,in the meantime the struggle to keep the weight I have is so very hard.Has anyone ever experienced anything like this after H Pylori,Seems I cannot be retested for quite some time.I want to thank all of you once again for all your support and help.I hope everyone is doing well, and all feeling better.

      Hiya!

It's been a while, I have just finished battling with h pylori 3 days ago too (haven't had a test to confirm yet), and I have suffered all your side effects too, especially nausea, stomach cramps and SEVERE WEIGHT LOSS (4kg less since starting the treatment)

I am still lacking appetite and acid reflux is still present.

I'm really hesitant taking Lansoprazole in case my side effects worsen (ie more acid, stomach cramps, decrease in appetite)

I just want to know about your progress now?

I lost weight too. Am weighing 55kg which is frightening, and i still don't have an appetite. Am thinking of taking Cypri Gold Syrup that boost appetite and good for sleeping. What do you think?
