Help with mood swings

Hi i am posting for the first time and desprate. I have been suffering with my mood swings for years but all my GP does is stick me on anti depresants which just arent working.. The last 2 weeks I havent been able to do anything unless "someone hold my hands" i physically can not go to work, I get ready to go with the intention of going but I just cant. i get the shakes, panic attacks and i feel sick. This is ruining my life my partner is doing the best he can but the cracks are showing.. right now i just want to hide under my bed with a bottle of vodka ( which is unusal because i dont like drink) please can some one help me

    Lucy, I know it can be scary to argue with your GP, but I'm afraid you're going to have to insist he refers you to a psychiatrist. If you're too scared to do this on your own, could your partner go with you? I really think you need to discuss all this properly with someone who's not just going to write out another prescription after a five-minute consultation.

      I think I am going to try its just getting the confidence to do so.. its just the extreams i feel and feel very alone with it

      Yes, I fully understand the confidence problem. GPs can be quite intimidating enough as it is, without having to cope with them when you're at your lowest ebb. But unless you can pluck up the courage to ask, there's no way you can be referred. By the way, under NHS rules (and I'm assuming you're in the UK) a GP cannot refuse to refer you to a specialist of any kind. However, some of them try and wriggle out of it, so you'd need to stand your ground in that case. That's why I was wondering whether someone could go in with you for moral support - partner, parent, friend etc. I do hope you'll be able to pluck up the courage to seek the help you need.
