Help with work!

I've just been told I have 3 prolapsed discs in my neck c5,6,7 and there pushing on the nerves. I work as a cashier but have been really struggling to carry on. The work are looking at ways to help but nothing is working. I need to know if I can carry on working or would I be able to go off work and class it as a disability.

I also have mild oa in my neck, hips, knee and hands and I'm trying hard to carry on but in do much pain. I'm on Gabapentine, naproxen and co codamol for the pain and there not working.

Thank you any advise welcome

From my experience it woud be a no.I was on Chemo for a yaer all day every day for a year 4 years ago.I almost died on 3 occasions. It left me with a permanent bowel condition.I appealed but it took a yaer to get to court ,my summary was .Dupytens concratures in my hands.LikeCarpel Tunnel but permanent nerve damage and impossible to treat .a week bladder rom the chemo injections,I do not drink.I fell down the stairs last new year and was in A and E and they xrayed myback .Just pulled a muscle so they said.Rest up your fine,Pain jhas become so severe i demanded an MRI on my back.It showed a prolaped disc and a degenearte disc with one disc touching the nerve but it took 9 months to get an Mri.Dotor refered me to ayoung and very arrogant Physio who said exercise.I can hardly walk on some days.Paracetamol for the pain he said.Im back to see the Phsio next weel and if he says anything stupid im goin to make noise and hopewfully see a Neuro Specialist not a glorified Pt instructor.Im in my 60s but i did win my appeal.THe judge and very qualified doctor took a look at my records and just said ,Unfit for alll work as of now to be reviewed in two years and thats due in April 2016.If they say im fit i ahve had it.In a nutshell its all about cutbacks. If they say your ok you have avery long battle. Contrary to belief Gps do write letters of support. Best they will say is has a sore neck.I was in construction for 50 plus years .If youn can still manage to work without the pain being too severe ,carry on.Otherwise its signing on the dole and tahts a degrading process.

Its no longer called dissability its called PIP.Its still run by Belafast and very hard to deal with.So if you can still manage to work ,Do so.But if you feel tghat its too much and doing more damage you wil have to make a decision. When yur on any kind of benefits you are not even allowed to leave the country,Not even for a family death.

Not wishing to be the Grom Reaper but all this we are here to help is quite simplr nonsense. Its about cutbacks and making thetre books look good. Best of luck.

Forget all the painkillers that you are taking they are all not strong enough .And if you ask for anything that repesents drug seeking behaviour.

I wish you better healh but think long and hard before you try to claim any kind of payments.

    Good luck.

Thanks for your advice Neil. I've got to wait for the results of my new MRI to see if my condition has got worse. As I wasn't told I had 3 disc prolapse just 1!

The cos I saw tues said if it come back worse (cause I've been working and more than likely causing more damage) he will refer me to see a surgeon to try and help release the nerves. But if it's not got any worse then he'll review my tablets. Went to work today but couldn't manage more than an hr as the pain was to much.

So I'm hoping the appointment comes through soon. But I'll only get so much sick pay then I'll need to do something about it

      Thank you

All you can do is wait for your results. If they stop your sick pay you ave to get vocal with your Gp and get a sick note for a min of 3 months. Its very stressful and all hard work .i have afriend that has a degree in neuro science,His summary is .Just because someone has a degree in something does not mean they are any good. They just past some exmas pure and simple.

I wish you well and take care.

I saw a cos on Tuesday and he was the one that told me it was 3 of my discs and not one like my gp had first said. I've been suffering this in total for 2yrs. All the cos said was I needed another MRI scan to see if the one from 12 months ago had changed. If it's got worse then I need to see a specialist but if not I just need to change my medication. But my concern is should I still be working with it or should I be off until the results are back

    Thank you

Hi your best bet to advise you on Wether u should work for now would be the specialist as he would have to book you off .in the interim are you by any chance using atleast a soft collar neck brace to help take pressure and excess movement that could make pain worse if you dnt have 1 try to get 1 it will help even just to relieve some pain perhaps.

I feel your pain just hang in there but always get 2nd opinions I have an annular tear on L4 an L5 and the first Doc told me mechanical injury just need bed rest but the second docs says I need surgery asap .. hope all goes well.
