hernia surgery but recovery pain.

I had my second inguinal hernia repair surgery 4 weeks ago.

I was black and blue for 2 weeks and very painful but then for the 3rd week all was good.

But last week and still now the pain and uncomfortable is horrible. It's worse if I sit up on sofa or in a car. Also it's very uncomfortable when I lay down as well.

it's feels like a burning sensation and as if it's raw under the skin. Is this normal recovery and how long should the pains last.

Hello Darren, I'm not sure it's normal I am in the same pain after second inguinal hernia repair and removal of mesh and five weeks post op. It''s terrible. Hurts most of the time even at rest lying down. Just hoping it will be better in time.

Thank you for your fast reply.

Is your pain across the top of your groin and a constant uncomfortable burning sensation and very sharp pains when the area is touched.

Also the wound that got stitched all across the bottom of the scar is really hard as if the area was tucked under and stitched that way. Is that normal for a stiched wound to feel like that?

Yes my pain is similar. At the moment absolutely killing me. Scar tissue can be hard, but will soften in time. I need to take some pain relief now to try and get some sleep. Unfortunately it doesn't help much with this pain. Better day tomorrow, I think this will take a months to heal.

I had op about 5 weeks ago and have similar feelings the wound feels really hard where the stitches were and one part is really tender. Having to take regular painkillers.  I thought I would have been pain free by now.  Wishful thinking on my part

Hi Elizabeth, I saw my surgeon yesterday and he is sending me for another ultrasound and MRI. Also Genitofemoral nerve block s to see if that is the culprit of my pain. My ilioinguinal nerve has already had neurectomy. The illiohypogastric nerve not the problem as far as he is concerned. Until then stay on pain medication. How are you going?

Still having to take regular painkillers don't have follow up for 12 weeks hope  things will have settled down a bit by then

Hi Elizabeth. Sorry to hear you don't have a follow up for that long. Could you call your surgeon and explain and see them sooner? It will probably settle in 12 weeks. I hope mine does too. I don't want to interfere with my body surgically ever again. Let me know how you get on. Good luck and positive energy your way.

Hope the treatment works for you. I can sympathise with you saying you don't want surgery ever again.   I didn't have any choice as I had a strangulated hernia which had caused a bowel blockage.   So was the only choice I could make

I can relate to the bowel blockage, I had emergency laparotomy for a twisted bowel last year. Scary stuff. The specialist yesterday said I likely have nerve pain. My GF nerve was probably damaged by the mesh when it was in too. I'm having an MRI and US tomorrow, including a GF nerve block. Trying to narrow things down. I hope they work it out. Take care.

My pain is settling down now but I have just relaxed and done a bit of walking this past week.

I read walking enhances recovery and speeds up the healing process as well cos it gets the blood moving around more .

Still a little uncomfortable but doing the right way. I'm aiming for 18th of July return to my warehouse work.

That's good to hear. Hoping all positive for you from now on. I hope mine improves in itself too. No intervention required. The last couple of days my pain hasn't been the intensity it has. Maybe I'm just taking longer to heal.

Yeah could take longer for you to heal.

Also are you doing to much to soon? Don't rush to much or going lifting heavy things about.

      Take care

Trying to be careful. Specialist yesterday said likely nerve related because of the mesh I had in causing damage to my GF nerve as well as the illioinguinal nerve. They are on the case to working out what's up. Having MRI and US including GF nerve block tomorrow. I hope you're feeling better.
