I can't help you much. My experience was not too good. It made me forget things - impossible to think up the noun I needed when talking. It made me not interested in food and I lost a lot of weight. After I had been on it a few weeks, it started to give me tooth pain. I stopped taking it. I tried to take it again at a later date and had the same tooth experience. A dentist told me I needed a root canal, but it cleared up again as soon as I stopped taking the topomax. So, for me, it was the wrong thing. However, even having been on it for two short times, I have very few migraines now. I don;t know if it switched a switch somewhere.

    Hi Blessmummy,

I wouldn't go near Topiramax ever again, please read the message I started called "Please be careful & Watch your symptoms" (click on my account and you'll see it there) the drug nearly killed me and that is not an exaggerartion, 3 GPs never spotted the symptoms that I'd had for 3 months and when I went back to my neruosurgeon he panicked when he heard what I was telling him and I had to go cold turkey which is not good either.

These things are lethal so if you do stay on them keep a close eye on any changes to your body.  My symptom was a constant sore throat, but as I said read my message as it is more detailed smile

It ruined my life for years before I realised that I didn't have dementia and i wasn't dying. I had more side effects than I can begin to talk about - I wouldn't let any family member of mine go on Topiramate. Speech problems, eye problems, lethargy.....

    Hi blessmommy,

please please please do not take these tablets.

I took them for three months March 2014 - June 2014 and it was the most darkest and most horrible time of my life and im only 22. I was prescribed these for hemiplegic migraines, and my god I wish I never took them, ever. I couldn't think straight, felt like I had flu 24/7 but the worst thing was the extreme panic attacks and anxiety and aggression I had, which unfortunately has stayed with me to this day. I only got upto 50 mg as I couldn't tolerate being on a high dose and came off them gradually. Went cold turkey and it was beyond horrific sad. They cost me my job, boyfriend and so much else.

    Have you tried pizotofen? X

I started taking Topamax in Sept. and by November I started having severe stomach problems. I scheduled a colonoscopy and an upper GI, which showed I had gastritis. Things just kept getting worse. My doctor's couldn't figure out what was wrong so, lot's of blood work. By March I had no appetite, had lost 60 lbs., had diarrhea constantly, my vision was blurry, memory problems, word retieval problems, extreme fatigue, tingling and numbness in my fingertips and toes and my hair starting falling out! I've been off of it for four days, hoping my hair will stop falling out or I'm going to end up completely bald! I even had to go to the ER one night because my stomach pains were unbearable. Sorry for getting off track, just want you to be aware! I was so tired I could barely function, thought about quitting my job so I could just stay home and sleep. It has a lot of very nasty side effects!

And now a positive note: my own migraine attacks have severely decreased because of this drug and I don't want to go without it! The key for migraines seems to be low doses (up to 100mg a day). And only if you can live with the side effects, which are different for everyone. My own are not as severe as those I've seen here (chronic diarrhea and some overheating issues) so the migraines going from an attack every other day to one every month is worth it to me. Takes a while to start working though... Side effects start before the lessening of the attacks...

I've been on this med for 14 yrs. I suffered from migraines since I was 10 and at the age of 57 is when they put me on this drug . I will say that it did stop the migraines and for me it was like a miracle because at times I could spend up to 2 weeks in bed with horrific migraines . Maybe I was so elated not to have anymore migraines the side effects that were creeping up from this medication I would either push to the side , try to deal with or did go to my dr and they never connected it to this medication and gave me antibiotics that never really worked. I'm now slowly decreasing my dosage and taking myself off and praying the migraines don't come back because I have many of the side effects and just tired of dealing with them - from fatigue, weight loss , nausea, ibs , memory loss, sleep problems, serious sinus issues being sent to ENT specialist for . I'm hoping most or all of these will stop once I'm off of this medication .
