Hot and itching

This is my fifth day on the prednisone 20mg and I am feeling much better overall with the exception of feeling hot and itching all over. I know this has been discussed previously but rather than try to find it I just started a new discussion. Do you have any idea if these are related to the disease? I have found one item that is a lifesaver to me and it is one of those neck pillows. My head gets to feeling heavy and my neck and shoulders are acheing without it.

Once I went on 20 mg pred I felt 99% better.  Have tried to reduce a bit and can feel the old stiffness in shoulders and hips.  Maybe you should be on 25 or 30 mg....

is the hotness in the form of sweats or just hot? Both PMR and pred can lead to sweats and feeling generally as if your body thermostat has gone mad. I would be sitting at the computer in a t-shirt in the depths of winter and for a few winters I didn't wear socks at all - just my winter boots when there was snow!

Itching can be due to pred. Are you taking plain white pred or are the tablets coloured? Fillers and colourings can cause such a reaction. And again, both PMR and pred can cause it. Have you tried using a really good emollient to help dry skin? In the UK Double Base and Diprobase can be provided on prescription as well as OTC and really can help with itchy skin.

Ever since I started on pred I've suffered 'hot flushes'.... they are so similar to menopause hot flushes I didn't realise that one had started and the other ended - of if the menopause ones even have!

I am also having the flushing sensations and sweating, much like menopause. The itching has been less frequent, but equally annoying. Lol.
