How can tell if you have swollen liver?

Posted , 7 users are following.

I've drank non stop for ten years 6-8 beers a night . I've been sober now a a few weeks I'm 32 years old active male.

I've Been having pains in my right side were my liver is that come and go. The pain is underneath my ribs not below. I'm quite slim BMI of 23 and can feel my ribs when I lie on my back and breath in. Would I be able to feel if my liver was swollen if I had a fatty liver Hepatitis or cirrhosis? It doesn't hurt to touch or lay on that side it's just a dull pain that comes and goes.

This among family reasons is why i stopped drinking after looking on line Im scarred I've done real damage. before I stopped I was starting to get a puffy face which has now gone. I had a couple of light coloured stools which have changed back to normal my urine is yellow but not dark brown but will be clear if I drink lots of water I have no other symptoms when I stopped drinking I just had night sweats do you think I've done some U doable damage ?

Hi Kevin have you had any medical tests yet, I think you have probably done the right thing by stopping drinking, you were drinking heavily so would be surprised if your liver hadn't been compromised to some degree, but you have stopped so well done you, hopefully you will have given yourself the chance to turn it round.

Hi thanks for getting back to me. Yes the doctor gave me a once over felt my liver said it did not feel enlarged or swollen. then had my bloods taken for a liver function test and to my amazement they came back fine. With talking to the doctor he said I seem in perfect health and that my body was giving out warning signs telling me I've over done it. I also have no pains and everything seems to have gone back to normal.

The liver must be one tough organ as I've honestly drank every evening to get drunk for 12 years.

I'm not gunna lie I've read that you can get good liver function test with a damaged if it's not to badly damaged which I m sure mine must be. But the liver can heal itself so no more alchole for me it's my second Chance I feel so lucky to have

    Hi Kevin!

I don't really have any answers to you, but I am in a similar boat. I am a 31 year old female and I would have (at least) 4 beers each night for the past 6 years... maybe longer. Except for the 2 years in between that I was pregnant.

I have had upper abdominal pain for 6 months to a year. I always thought it was a muscle because it doesn't hurt all the time.

I went and had my first physical in like 10 years and my liver enzymes were high. 5x what they should have been. I immediately stopped drinking and went back a week later and they went down, but were still double... my doctor requested an ultra sound where they found a small nodule in my liver. She said it is nothing to be concerned about but wants me to go for a MRI. I have been in complete panic since I found out waiting for my MRI. I have two little boys and I am so scared I have cancer or something terrible... I don't have answers for you, but I wanted to let you know that you're not alone and I am going through a similar thing... I will keep you updated with my results and I hope you do the same. Good luck to you!!

Hi Kevin! I got my MRI results from the dr today. It ended up being a fatty tumor. My dr referred me to a specialist just for a second opinion and wants me to go back for bloodwork and another MRI in 6 months for follow up... I hope that you get good results as well!! Being young is on our side, even though we like to drink! smile

Hi I hope the turnout isn't serious and that this is better news than what you were hoping for. It sounds better than end stage cirrhosis so that's a bonus . can be sorted ? I guess that as they have asked you to come bk in 6 months there not that concerned As they are professionals and we like to think they know what there doing.

I also got my bloods back and to my amazement all is fine. my liver is working perfectly. I must be one of the Lucky ones as I've genuinely drank 99.9. % of every evening for 12 years 6-8 beers some times more with as least a massive sessions every Friday when I would drink shots and all sorts. But I'm under no allusion I've read you can get good liver function test results and still have a damaged liver. so I'm still going to stay off the booze let my liver heal. The liver really is one tough organ.

I'm really enjoying waking up with energy and not a fuzzy head. I can not believe it to be honest I feel like I've been given another chance so in not going to waste it
