Hyperthyroidism

Hi, I was dx with hyperthyroidism (doctor said probably Graves), He said it looked like my thyroid was burning out. (I got a goiter in my neck and my symptons have become less servere. Would that be the antithyroid medicine or the burn out? Does anyone know what happens when your thyroid burns out, how long it takes and what happens afterwards) I am still taking my thyroid medication and am really just confused....

Thanks

It is quite strange that you should mention that as my GP said something very similar to me. However, if you have Graves, your thyroid will not simply burn itself out but with medication the disease may go into remission. It was only when I joined this forum did I find out that my GP was wrong. You should be referred to an endocrinologist now who will advise you better of your options x

Hi, thank you for responding. I am busy trying to get referred or get a second opinion. He also mentioned waiting 6 - 8 weeks before doing more bloods. "If" it did burn out, that only takes a few days so why wait? I will definitely get another opinion as he was disscussing getting TT (total thyroidectomy). I really glad i found this forum... Thanks for helping me...

So what are you doing now? Have you gone to a specialist or go a second opinion?
