Everyone has different side effects some people are lucky enough to have none at all, hopefully you'll be one of them. I think most people are nervous about the possible side effects, I know I was 2nd time round as I'd been through it once before. My side effects were mainly an increase in my anxiety at first and not being able to sleep. But whatever side effects you get and for however long, there is an end to it and it is all worth going through to feel better again xx

Like the other person said everyone responds differently to the medication. I hope it helps you. My daughter was on it for 2 years, she gained wieght, but they weren't sure if it was the medication your are on or abilify.

Starting on a low dose is a good idea and build up over time, this will lessen the side effects a little.  My son is on these meds and is now back to his normal happy self again.  It's best to have lots support from family and your doctor, and talk to them as much as you can.

The side effects can last a few weeks, but as the other said, everyone is different.  You may feel over anxious, a bit nauseous, flat, unable to sleep ... but it will wear off.  Getting out in the fresh air daily for a walk is good, and any exercise you can do as it helps burn excess adrenaline, plus it releases endorphins helping you to feel good.  Eating well helps nourish the body too.  All this whilst you wait for the meds to start working.

Dont expect immediate results - it can take many, many weeks.  Just keep going though, however you feel, and the meds will help you.

Remember to talk to your parents or family, or anyone you can.  Talk on this forum too as many people will help you through this.

I've been on fluoxetine since January and it took a couple of months for me to feel normal and everyone said I was like a completely different person

My meds were recently increased to 40mg and I'm experiencing some side effects like lethargy, anxiety, sadness but I've read this will subside so I'm going to stick it out

It helps to take this medicine at night before bed I use to have insomnia but now I'm able to sleep

You're not alone hang in there!

My first few weeks were pretty much the same but a bit less weepy/irritable. After 4 weeks you will probably feel even better, but it affects everyone differently. See how you go & if you're worried come back on the forum and ask Qs and call your doc/speak to your parents. Hope thing work out for you. xxx
