I take Plaquinil and Methotrexate and I still have to take prednisone to keep the swelling at bay. It is the only thing that helps me. If I forget to take even one dose, I am miserable within hours! I will be trying Humira in a few months, so hopefully that will help.

Michelle, I feel so bad for you. Are you seeing a rheumy? If not you need to and if you are maybe you should switch. How long have you been on these meds? If they are not working in a couple to 3 months, you should try something different. Ask your doctor for painkillers. Be careful of taking prednisone long term as your body can become dependent on it and you will have terrible withdrawals. Remember you take control of your doctor's visit's and don't settle for something that is not working. Nobody should have to live in pain when there is alternatives!  ((hugs to you))

    Hi Michelle

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing so much swelling and pain.   I also have Crohns and RA and also trying to find the right combination of medications to help with both conditions     Currently on MTX now at 10mg and slowly trying to increase til I tolerate side effects.   Humira gave me side effects that really scared me and I asked the MD to switch to another med.

Dont know how long you have been on your MTX and IV med but you might need the dosage increased or med change to something that works better for you.  Trial and error/ frustration.   Find it hard dealing with 3 doctors that don't work together at times.  Saw RA doc last week/   next month seeing GI specialist and also they want me to see a cardiologist.   Seems like all I do is go to the doctor/  have blood tests etc.    I read an article about RA and Crohn's saying that bacteria in the gut may be 'off'' and to try a low starch diet for symptom relief.   I looked up that diet.  It is extremely restrictive and not something I could follow for any length of time

Sorry I don't have any helpful suggestions
