I'm so sorry you are having such an awful time.I would request a copy of the report or a DVD of it and bring it to the Tenn Dr.That way he gets best info. The thing that's frustrating is that they will tell you what it is not but are always afraid to day what it could be.They are afraid of giving wrong info and being sued..Try giving reports and ask what they think it may be.Im hoping its transitory as you had feeling in your extreme ties prior to the hip surgery.Good Luck with everything. Be well

    Hi Carol,

That sounds terrible ... Could you go for a 2nd-3rd opinion?

When was your THR surgery? what did the x-ray show?

Yours was probably a little more complicated surgery as you broke your hip/femur ...

Sorry I can't be of any help here and hope there will be others on this forum who have some advice.

    Big warm hug

    Hi Carol,

It's really bad to hear that your hip has been broken. You need to take rest and go to a specialist for treatment.

hi Carol I broke my femur and had a THR which resulted in popliteal nerve damage on the same leg which meant no motor or sensory nerves. Suggest you get a second opinion  from both a neurological surgeon and another orthopaedic surgeon. I am 12 weeks postop, 10 weeks  of daily intensive physio and nearly 80% back working, unfortunately still no tenants as ankle and toes refuse to work.   whilst waiting for appointments try to see a physio expert in nerve damage  and ask their opinion. Wishing you all the best regards Dot

I broke my hip two days after you. I broke the ball off the top of the Femur coming off a bike. My consultant also pinned the pieces back together, but with three 4 inch bolts.

I didn't end up in a wheel chair but had six weeks no load bearing in crutches. The pain was really bad as the repair didn't take, I didn't get a hip replacement until the 13th of August and spent the interim time in a lot of painkillers and was generally out of it.

I still have some pains in my left leg, but very little of that is around the hip and scar. It seems to be mostly my knee and mid thigh. Sometimes it feels very strange, kind of like it is just waking up again after getting a ball full force in the thigh.

What sort of anaesthetic did you have for each operation? And what has your physio said, as I have had periods of numbness and pins and needles, but these are resolved with exercises and stretches?

I can really appreciate the feelings of depression. I have gone through that myself and still get days where I am really down, even though my hip replacement has gone well. There are also many in here who have felt the same. Have you spoken to your Doctor about how depressed you feel?

I hope it sorts itself out for you.

Hi Carol - what a horror show for you. You have good advice above. I suggest getting the operation reports from both surgeons and the nerve doctor's report as well. Sadly it sounds as if you need another opinion and don't wait around as further damageay occur. I don't know anything about medical services in your state, but ask your local doctor for help in selecting the best you can afford - to ensure the best way forward but also to ensure that you are well served if a legal case develops. Your local doctor can also see you regularly to deal with Ain and create a record of this as well.

I am so sorry for your troubles and I hope this resolves positively. Please let us know how you do.

With big hugs because I know there will be tough days ahead.

P.S. you are on one of the toughest sports round and are likely used to brushing off pain. But now you really need to listen to it and try to be patient with your body. Come back anytime for advice or support.

First off - big hugs, you been through the wringer haven't you?

I am definitely with Renée on this - get a 3rd orthopedic opinion. I dont know anything about Tennessee centres or orthopedic surgeons but ask your GP to help eurologists but ask your local physician to help you find the best one available who has done more than 100 hip replacements and also look for another neurologist who has consulted extensively (more than 50) with nerve damage related to thr. And formally request copies of all reports - the reports of both operationsides and reports and the one from the neurologist. This will help the new neurologist and orthopedic consult see the whole picture and to know what equipment was used when. Ask your local physician to keep monitoring you - this creates additional evidence for the consultations but additional evidence in the event this becomes a court case.

In the meantime, ensure that you are getting the right drugs - you are in one of the toughest sports and I am sure you are as tough as nails. But you need to pamper r your body until they get to the bottom of the problems.

I have had good luck with hydrotherapy - physiotherapy in water. The weightlessness is very soothing and water's resistance makes exercises more effectivefor you can find one with an athletic therapist - it might be even better. They know how to work effectively with people who driven in their sport.

nd they can help you with pain management therapies until you get sorted out.

    Hang in there Carol.

With warm hugs and best wishes for a successful outcome. Please tell us how you do and what you learn along the way. And come back anytime to vent or get a little encouragement or feedback.

PS - I just had my 2nd through (day 4 post-op).and it is tough during the first while, tough patience-wise during weeks 4-6 then it should be positive as you push the boundaries on therapeutic exercise vs competitive. . What you have experienced cannot be normal and it needs fixing.
