I was scared of palpitations and sweating!

Hi it's me again, I'm still waiting to see my specialist for the possibility if polycythaemia as my red blood, haemoglobin and hemocrit is highon Thursday, however last night I had an awful experience and was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything simular, I was out yesterday at BBQ at my friends house, I don't drink on a regular basis but yesterday had quite a lot, wasn't drunk or anything that bad and I was only drinkin beer, but in the middle of the night my heart was pounding so strong and my stomach was really off it I ran to the toilet, but what alarmed me the most was the sweating! I was sweating so much it was almost as though I was running a marathon, it was running down my face like a river and hair was soaked, I was really scared! Xx

Hello julia, I haven't had those symptoms exactly but I do know that I can no longer drink alcohol or drink strong coffee containing a lot of caffeine. I don't know what the biological effects of these things are but they certainly don't agree with me these days.

I suppose if you think of it bluntly alcohol is a poison. You just have less tolerance of the poison now.

I gave up both coffee and alcohol and I feel a lot better for it.

Hi Angela, Thank you, I told my husband this morning after keeping him up most of the night been scared that that's it! T-total for me from now on!, that's even if I've not got polycythaemia as it was a really frightening experience, I don't drink coffee anyway I've never liked it, I only have probably a couple of teas a day too, I drink mainly water or diluted squash. All day today my heart has been thumping and I've got pins and needles too in my feet, thank fully no sweating though! X

Hello julia.  Sounds awful, do hope you feel better soon.

Just wanted to say do make sure you keep well hydrated.  From what I've learnt (still learning) drinking lots of water is important as dehydration causes increased high hgb.

Please anyone correct me if I'm wrong though.

      j.

I had exactly the same, between palpations and vertigo I became a teetotal.

Another 1 of the many draw backs

Yes it seems that's what I need to do, but there's a lot worse things in life to give up on x
