Increased heartbeat after eating

Hi, I am 57 female. live in UK and a long term sufferer of GERD, I take 20mg esomeprazole and 75mg ranitidine which keeps things under control.  Over past 18 months have had some really crazy things going on with heart and chest, my heart starts to race for no apparent reason and I can feel it banging in my head and chest. It can go from my resting 72 to 118 in seconds.  I have had many ECG's, X Rays,  Scans, Blood tests and now waiting for a 24 hour monitor.  Doctor in A&E could feel it racing and see it going fast but can find nothing wrong, they say it is just "one of those things".  So I have been monitoring this and trying to work out if there is pattern and I think there is. Take yesterday for instance I was helping to chop downs bushes in garden, really active with no chest pains, or abnormal raised heartbeat, came in sit down had a drink and some crisps and bang heart raising. I could feel it pounding in my chest, it went to 108 bpm.  This has happened a few times now when sitting and after eating, could it be related to GERD. If so what can I do about it and will it cause a heart attack.  I will be mentioning this to GP when 24 trace is done so that they can perhaps look at tape and see if increased beats relates to meal times.  It is just really worrying not knowing what is going on and putting a damper on my quality of life as I am worrying about a heart attack constantly.

    i m 30 year old male and have the same problem like you and i am facing it from last 3 and half year or almost 4 years now----i feel before that my heart escape beat i go to different docs and do lot of tests,till now i have more then 10 ecgs echo ultrasounds blood tests endoscopy colonscopy stool test etc every thing is normal---------i have panic attack in which i feel i have heart attack my heart escape beat is fine now but i deal with my anxiety problem like heart attack on daily basis i feel heavy in my left side chest i feel scared for a while i feel like i have heart attack after few mins burps start some time i burp for whole day-----before when i feel like my heart escape beat 3 times it in the middle of ecgs while the doc is doing ecg for me i feel my heart escape beat or to much heavy feeling in my chest but ecg result will come normal---------till now didnot got the point why but i burp alot and here one doc tell me that i have Gerd------every time i feel sick feel circles some times and some time heart burn but mostly i have panic attacks and after that i burp alot this coming staurday i have to visit to the doc and discuss about my medicine with him other then that i will discuss about fundoplication surgery bcz i cn ,t live like scary like that--i m tired it effect my personal life and also my work...i change more then 20 docs but till now no thing help me specially when i am travelling in plane i feel to scared and have panic attack i feel my breathe stop for a while then after some time burps start for hours----------i am thinking whats that may be it because of gerd i am currently on esmoprazole 40 mg a day but didnot help me

      Hi thanks for your reply, it is really scary having to put up with all these symptoms, I am lucky that I do not get the burping problems as well.  Have you tried taking 20mg morning and 20mg at night and then ranitidine in between.  Not sure if you are UK, if so these can be brought over the counter at any chemist, supermarket it is worth trying.       i am not in Uk i am in Japan i try only 40 mg esmoprazole  in morning time some time but i use 20 md esmoprazole once in a day but didnot work------the doc give me another medicine before i forget the name but it work for me but some time i have burps but small amount got tired of it it look so odd to me bcoz i burp all day and medicine didnot work for me on this coming saturday i will go again and discuss with my doc about rantidine + dexlaint or pentoprazole my life is sucked i do colonscopy three weeks ago bcoz of in digestion its also clear show no problem mean gerd is the cause of my problem---i am also thinking about gerd surgery but not now ist i wanna try all kind of medicine if it didnot work i will discuss about surgery bcoz i have panic attacks after my gall bladder surgery-------and i also burp alot since from when i do gall bladder surgery may b that will be the vause of my panic attacks hope u will find some magical medicine which will work for u i am 30 year old male

    Hi. Ive just replied to another post about much the same thing.

    I have a 4cm sliding Hiatus Hernia and apparantely this is the cause of chest pains and palpatations. I also have had numerous ECG's and all is well.

    My GP has told me that if the pains get worse then to see her and get another ECG. Its all too easy to blame our Reflux and we have to be sure that something else isnt happening.

    You can be pretty certain that your pains are caused by your condition but if anything changes, then you should always make trip to A&E  just to rule out anything more sinister.

      Hi Hilary.  I had an endoscopy in January which showed nothing at all, which is good but odd as I have had severe reflux for over 10 years now, I wish it was a hernia or something as at least there would be a reason for it.  I am a bit overweight and have a large bust which I suppose puts a lot of pressure on that area so am trying to lose weight.  My GP just looks at me as if I am mad when I explain about hearing my heart in my head/ears so I am hoping the 24 hour thing may show up a pattern throughout the day.  The docs seem to put a lot of thing down to GERD, you are right we do need to be sure something else isn't going on, which is why I am asking for all these tests, then hopefully I can at least accept there is nothing sinister and not worry so much.  Take care

      i agree with you young heart but if there is a heart problem it will show in ecgs----and let me tell you sum thing if that will be the cause of heart may be you have an heart attack till now----bcoz attack comes all of sudden and in seconds you will be finish-------i still remember 3 or 4 times when they are doing ecg for me my heart escape a beat i was pretty sure that ecg may have some thing wrong dramtically my ecg result will be normal now i didnot feel heart escape beat as i have done 10 + ecgs and also done echo 2 years ago and having plenty of blood test ultra sounds stool test i feel pain in my eyes done lot of test for that to no thing wrong accept dry eyes and illergy----------every day i face panic attacks and lot of burps is there any test remaning that i can do that----i have 3 friends and 2 cousin and me face the same problem 4 of them along me 5 we do alot of tests no thing shown wrong so what we should blame me i have lot of panic i go to cardiologist + physcian+medical specialist+ gastroenterologist= result is zero they believe i am pschyco and most of the doc put me on anti depressant tablets-----but one thing is sure if its heart problem may b i have a heart attack till now bcoz i m facing that from almost 4 years in this coming december---------still searching the solution of my problem-------but no answer till now
