Insomnia

Good morning all,  After nearly 2 years of feeling great, here I am with a 2nd round of depression.  Previously I use to take amitripiline but this stile I have been prescribed sertaline.  I have a terrible insomnia, and was told that sertaline will make me drowsy. Is this correct?  Does it make anyone else drowsy? Many thanks in advance and God bless

Hi sorry to hear about you feeling like that.

    Insomnia must be terrible 😔

Everyone is different, but in my experience with sertraline I never felt drowsy, in the first couple of weeks of taking it I actualy struggled to go to sleep and stay in a good restful sleep.

But after a little while my sleeping pattern went back to normal for me.

I wonder if your go can help out with it?

I used those herbal kalms before which used to make me really sleepy and could t stop yawning ha ha.

    All the best.

Yes, the meds affect us all differently. Some like you and I have trouble sleeping, and a few others sleep more than usual (although this can go hand-in-hand with the depression). I do what I can to tire my brain before going to sleep. Perhaps your doctor could prescribe something to help you sleep - I've read this has helped many sufferers.

Good luck. Don't let it beat you! You can get through this :-)

    Hi

I took sertraline too and it compounded my insomnia by making me restless and very much awake.  My doctor told me that SSRI's aren't particulary good for sleep.  I was then put on lofepramine which was much better.  Good luck.
