Is my left shoulder starting to freeze?

Posted , 9 users are following.

I've had a right frozen shoulder which started 10 months ago. The last 3 weeks my left shoulder has been aching, all around the back of the shoulder blade and up into the side of the neck. The pain is constant and when I'm in bed the only way I can lie on it is by putting my arm up under my head, stretching the armpit as much as possible!

The front and top of shoulder is tender to touch a bit too!

I can't remember how the first one started as I wasn't really looking out for anything until I started having extreme pain on sudden movement.

I just want to prepare myself as early as possible. I'm finding it really hard not knowing!

Can anyone help?

Going on my experience, my good shoulder ached a lot because I used it more to compensate for the frozen side.

Can I suggest looking at a brilliant website run by a shoulder expert. Look up the London Upper Limb Unit. He explains all shoulder problems and has a particularly good explaination of FS. Its well worth the time spent and it will answer any questions.  Good luc

Oh my goodness, I loooked up this site and it is so, so, so helpful in all sorts of ways  TRIPLE STARS FOR THIS - especially look at the NHS referral info - invaluable - they will be inundated with appointment requests!!!  Because of a less than helpful local GP NHS system (being very polite frown)  Ihave suffered for a very long time and at huge expense trying all sorts of things.  I even went to  private London clinic 300 miles away.  Evenutally I found a similar clinic in the next county, my GP was very anti it - but thanks to doing so I am due for surgery on Tuesday next week.  The right hand not knowing what the left is doing I also finally received a first apointment date for the GP's local choice - not for another two months and this is only the first consultation!  By choosing and booking I will hopefully be over it all and well ont he road to recovery before this first appointment which would be 18 months after the intiital injury. However, I wonder if even now I have been correctly diagnosed from what I have read so intend to ask a few more questions as my situation is complex following injury affecting the elbow and wrist/hand too.  This could be why so many on this site have to return several times for surgery before they finally improve.

Thank you and I am not on facebook so perhaps gretchen (comment below) could highlight this clinic and website there too biggrin))

hugs to all of you in pain out there biggrin x

I'm experiencing the same thing sad My left one is about 6 months in and my right one started hurting about 6 wks ago. So far no loss of ROM, but I'm pretty much assuming it's frozen because it's the same weird kind of pain. Make sure to check out the Facebook page " Frozen Shoulder Friends" - There's a ton of great people on it and many of them are "lucky" enough to have 2 frozen shoulders! Best of luck to you smile

      Thanks, I'll have a look.

I haven't lost any movement yet but it is a bit stiff and sore to move.

None of the painful episodes on sudden movement either!

I just know it's not right.

I have had a frozem shoulder also for about 12 months. My left shoulder began hurt like yours about 3 months ago. My specialist said its tendonitis from over use because I cannot use my right arm. He said do to rest it as much as posssible.

Ann, found some stuff on tthe web which seems like the condition you are suffering from. As you get relief from putting you arm under your head it is very unlikely you have a shoulder problem. By shortening the distance from you shoulder to your neck and the area where you describe the pain you have something irritating a nerve root from the cervical spine. See your Doc as this can I'm sure lead to some arm muscles becomming weak.

      Ann,

      Google the following.

      1. Shoulder abduction relief is clear sign of pinched nerve in neck.

      2.Cervical radiculopathy

Conservative treatment is usually offered prior to anything heroic.

      Hope this helps.
