I've had a urine infection since mid november last year which has stopped me having an opperation. I tried 9 different antibiotics before the main doc at the hospital told me a man can't get rid of this type of infection like a woman and needs a full month at 200mg trimathorprin each day taken in one dose to clear it. Well its not worked as normal it came back after 4/5 days. I need to know if there is anyone who's had the same problem if they cured it and how they did, 9 months is a long time to put up with this and I get frustrated every time things don't work.

Yes it sure is a long time to deal with this .. Has your doctor whi has not been able to effectively treat you referred you to other specialists? Have you had thyroid and allergy testing, and do you have other symptoms such as tiredness or mood diagnosis? I have a close family member who had 2 yrs of repetative chronic UTI infections with ongoing antibiotic use (the physicians KNOW how dangerous this is) before finally being referred to another specialist (possibly an endocronologist and internist), finding out that her infections were caused by a low thyroid condition, which was caused by a systemic fungal infection called candida, that was induced by high gluten/grain, soy, dairy, nut, etc allergins that systemically caused the spread of this infection into the bladder and urethral tubes where urine exits. She has a condition as a result of this called diverticulitis in her gut/colon area, where small pockets had formed from years of unknown systemic candida infection, from high gluten/grain, dairy, etc sensitivities had caused damage, where toxins would get trapped from the diet she ate, and cause the toxins to become fungal candida, thus spreading into the bladder area causing continual UTI infections. She was told the candida condition in turn caused a low thyroid condition, where all these conditions became tied in together. Treatment has started with all 4 types of thyroid testing, and serious allergy testing for the intolerances. She is currently taking a low thyroid medication and has been prescribed the Paleo diet program.

I forgot to mention, another by product of the spread of systemic candida fungal infection has also effected her moods, and she has been diagnosed with a bi polar mood condition that is believed to have been brought on by this. I know of one other non relative person, who also has all of these symptoms, whose diagnosis mimics my family member's diagnosis. I hope this information helps in some way to get to the bottom of the underlying cause of your chronic infections.

      Hi C2Anna,

Thanks for taking the time to explain about your family member. I have had in the region of 15 path lab tests and they have tested for quite a lot of different things as well as uncounterble urine dips for infections, plus a Cystoscopy & colonoscopy, scans both ultrasound and CT and only one thing was found a very small stone in my kidney all the other tests that could just said urine infection.

I'm now waiting to see a doc again on 1st/9th and I will run through the antibiotics to see which of the ones I took that cleared the infection for a short period after a 3 or 7 day dose and see if they'll give it a month double dose try as they did with the trymathorprim.

I was 2 days off a new knee when the infection started so as I need both replacing I'm starting to feel a lot of pain now.
