Just want everything back the way it was! ANY ADVICE PLEASE?

I was diagnosed with Hypertension at the age of 17, by then I was already a upcoming professional young rugby player in South Africa. They found out I had Hypertention when I broke my nose and a Doctor gave me a checkup My BP was 200+/120+. After many months of different tests my specialists could not find any conclusion. It doesn't run in the family, so basicly today 3+ years later and still no light in the tunnel. I am on COVERAM 10/10 and it keeps my BP at about 130/70 to 160/90. I weigh 90kg and 6,05ft tall. I am still in good shape and do allot of excersise. Today my BP was 157/88, it drains me that I am this young and can't do anyting without my pills and even the pills don't keep my BP at bay. I was forced to stop playing rugby and my life is just tearing to pieces. Any advice or just some good would be appreciated. Thanks all.

There are a few devices that can reduce BP. Google "Medtronic renal denervation"

and "ROX Coupler". I don't know if they are avaiable in SA. in the UK Medtronic are starting a series of trials on their latest version and are looking for applicants..

Is the Rex coupler that you write about the 'paper clip' device that I read about once. Not sure how it works but at the time i thought it sounded great.  Can you tell us a bit more please?

Yes the 'paper clip' Just Google it and you should come up with informatio. The makers ROX have a web site and you should be able to find information on trials they were conducting about four years ago. If it does not work the device can be removed.

Interesting ... Have you ever thought of having one?

Yes, I applied to get om the renal denervation trial at Imperial College. I went through the tests but they decided that my BP was not constantly high enough.

The ROX coupler was being trialed at the same time at my local hospital but I did not apply for it as at the time I thought that I would meet the criteria for renal denervation.

I bet it would have helped and saved you a lot of bother.

      It would have.

The consultant I see at the hypertension centre said that he understands how renal denervation works but not understand how/why the ROX coupler works.

you can continue taking your meds and follow doctor's advice, and slowly change your diet into balance diet with vegetables and very very less meat... if u want, just a little chicken breast and fish meat (lean meat) and then exercise a bit... must not do cardiovascular exercise.. just normal fast walking , stretching etc. slowly... when the pressure ok... u slowly reduce doc's meds and then ... slowly... when all seems ok, you stop the medicines. I am back to normal without medicines and seeing doctors for  months now. You can too ... but need discipline.
