So, after knee xrays, an ultra sound, shots, the MRI done 2 days ago told the whole story. Left knee torn cartlidge. Having surgery this Tuesday. If anyone can describe their post op recovery it would really be appreciated.
I will be alone most of the day until teenage grandson is home from school. Can you walk at all to get something to drink or use the bathroom? How long did the major pain last? How soon before your return to work? Any physical theraphy and when did it start after?
Did the pain meds really help? I have a pain script for Norco 325 Mg. Has anyone taken this and did it really ? Thanks for sny information/advice.

Norco 5/325 is what I've used after both of my replacements and it has worked well. You just have to be careful because the 325 is mg of acetominophen so if you add Tylenol on top of it during the day you need to watch your total mg and don't overdo it.
Can help you more when I know the surgery. I'm afraid I don't know much about a repair but am extremely familiar with TKR 😀

In all the surgery really isn't that bad and if you just keep on a schedule with pain meds you should feel very comfortable! I stopped taking my pain meds completely after about my 4-5th day post op and was walking around right after surgery (although not efficiently and very slowly) I hope it all goes well! Good luck! Just remember to rest and ice so your body can heal itself!

The pain meds you have been prescribed come in three strengths. The 1st number is the opiate and the 2nd is the anti inflammatory. The one cautionary thing is don't add more Tylenol type drg or you could possibly create additional problems. The Dr may add a different type anti inflammatory like naprosen or Aleve as they are in a different family of drugs.Use caution to start with as far as activity until you find out how your body and brain is going to react. Generally speaking the doseage isn't going to leave you in such a daze you'll feel like a bowl of gelatin. As far as the healing process, this will be as mildly invasive as knee surgery can be as it will be done with a scope. I would imagine you will be on crutches for several weeks and will have physical therapy. Depending on where you are located in the world and what your system allows, possibly in home therapy for a couple of weeks and then some out patient. You will be expected to do therapy on your own as well. As a suggestion, I've always use the blue gel Pac ice packs available through Amazon or at may pharmacies. The are plieable and refreeze in a hurry. (just don't place them on the bare skin. Put them in a towel or pillow case). Use the icing frequently during day to prevent swelling. Take pain meds on schedule as with all knee surgeries and do your prescribed excercises as directed. Often times people believe if the add more reps or weight or more sessions on their own they will get better faster. This attitude can lead to injuries and problems........just listen to the Dr and therapist. Don't expect miracles. There is a given amt of damage being done with any type surgery and depending on the individual, it takes time, and that time varies. As far as getting along by yourself, just be careful till you start working through the process. Try not to rely on your usual patterns of meal preparation and housecleaning etc as you will be slowed for a few weeks. If you are in an area where they have a meals on wheels or delivered meal program for the noon meal, you might think about that for 2 or 3 weeks. Just be cautious but not frightened when it comes to activities. Obviousily you won't by be driving for awhile. Just be sure and tend to the small wounds very carefully. You don't want to do anything to create infections.

So, never again does your car stay in a parking lot for a week. Call your local senior center. They are available to help regardless of your age. Call a local church. Tons of people ready to do good deeds for others. You DO NOT have to go it alone.I hope you are recovered and feeling well. If not, let us know. We ARE here for you. It's not such a big world after all.
