Hi all, I am 30years old and recently went an ultrasound scan where they found a "large subserosal fibroid postrerior into the right side of the uterine body measuring 7.9 x 8.5 cm." My gp referred me to a specialist and they could not fit me into an appoitment for another two weeks. So, of course I made the appointment, but I can not wait for two weeks to know what this means! I was hoping that there might be somebody on here who has had a similar experience with a fibroid of this size and position, that could tell me what options were reccomended by thier specialist. Is this something which will have to be removed, and if so, is that going to be a proceedure which will require bedrest and time off work, or is it a fairly simple outpatient proceedure?
TIA.

Other procedures include uterine fibroid embolism, (UFE), and myomectomy - surgical removal of the fibroids only.
As fibroids are hardly ever malignant, however, there is no need to rush into any immediate treatment unless you are suffering severe symptoms, or are wanting to conceive. Hope that answers a few questions!

I can help you a little with your query. I'm currently recovering from a Laparoscopy and Myomectomy for two Fibroids in my uterus. I too am 30 and opted for the surgery to remove the fibroids as I have had severe abdominal pain for some time. The gynecologist also advised that the location of the fibroids meant that I would struggle to fall pregnant and if I was to fall pregnant that I would most likely miscarriage.
I've taken two weeks off work and was hospitalised for 1 night. It will be one week tomorrow from surgery and I am glad that I didn't rush back to work as I'm very tired and still sore- Don't worry its really not that bad, the pain killers do their job, you just need plenty of rest and a good movie selection!
All the best with your appointment- I understand the pain of waiting for answers!

I wouldn't be worrying too much as there are several options available that you will discuss with your consultant when you see him. I will digout the leaflet I was given and screen shot it to you xxx
