Started methotrexate a week ago 15mg, felt crap all week and yesterday AE with big gut problems, really bad cramping, spasms, pain, felt sick, nearly fainted, and today feeling much better methotrexate must be leaving my system, so it's to GP to tell him I can't take it, see what happens.

If it's the first time you have taken it you might be asked to carry on with it and be given some other meds to combat the symptoms it causes as the docs do think this is the wonder drug

    Hope you feel better soon

I did methotrexate for 4 weeks.  My nauseau, head aches, and feeling like crap the first two days got slightly better over time.  HOWEVER, the light-headedness, woziness, and confusion on the 3rd day did not get better.  I had to go off as i was missing a day of work each week (not to mention my entire weeken) when taking metho on Friday.

I have since gone off and am now on leflumonide.  Been on it 3 weeks.  Not really seeing any benefit yet, but rhemy said this could take 3 months to work.  I've already had a flare requiring a office call and prednisone pack.  I'm also taking 5 mg prednisone daily and naproxen twice a day.

I would give the office a call and let them know the side affects.

Make sure your rheumatologist/rheumatology nurse know about it immediately. Methotrexate is just the first on a list of drugs for RA that has to be worked through to qualify for the next down the list if one doesn't work or the side effects are too bad. It is also available as injections which avoid the gastric problems and that may be your rheumy's first approach. Or he may move to drug no 2.

The GP can't do anything about these medications - they are for specialists to use. If you have to wait for a GP appointment you might as well contact the nurse yourself - I assume you have got one? You should have.

You shoud only take half first couple of weeks.  That usually prevents the sickly feeling.  Good luck😀
