Methotrexate repeat prescriptions

Hi, I have been on methotrexate for years (9 tabs per week) with monthly blood tests but my gp has taken it off repeat and says that is the rules now.

I don't mind just getting a months worth each month but does everyone else have to see a gp each month to get their prescription?

Thx

I have to see my rheumatologist every 8 weeks but she gives me a standing order for blood work and prescriptions for 3 months. Maybe you should switch to a more specialized physician.

Thx for your reply. My rheumatologist only issues hospital prescriptions which would be more of a nuisance.

I'm going to email the surgery now and see if I can make sense of it

Well I am still getting it on repeat it could change but I have not heared anything about changes. I have even got my Tramadol on repeat now it is with new Boots electronic prescriptions. I live in Yorkshire could be North South devide I am not sure why your GP has changed this but it could be a good thing he may be wanting to catch any side effects before they become a real problem. I only have 2 monthly blood tests as well. It is a bind having to go more often but could be a good thing I only see my GP once a year for a revew. Hope I have helped.

Hi thx for reply. It's not like they let the tea boy sign of on repeat requests is it. They are still checked by a doctor!

      Even the pharmacist was confused

When I was taking oral methotrexate these prescriptions were issues buy my hospital Rheumatologist. My GP only issued the folic acid tablets on prescription.

Now i inject Methokect which is ether for the side affects. However I get 2 months prescriptions delivered at home by Health at Home which is a specialist organisations delivering this type of toxic medication. My GP has never issued methotrexate on prescription

Where do you live? And do you have a rheumatologist? You should. My prescriptions from my rheumatologist are good for 4 months at a time until my next visit to him.

Maybe you should shop around for a rheumatologist.
