Midfacial segment pain - I think I`ve Finally found what I have

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have  had pain on and off for years  that I always thought was  sinus infections but it is ALWAYS the bridge of my nose. There is no mucus that is  green, hardly any congestion. Just this terrible pressure and pain in the bridge of my nose and it seriously feels like someone punched me there.

I have had CT scans that come back normal. I had sinus surgery in 2012 and things seemed to improve  for awhile. The more stressed out I get, the more pain and pressure comes. Advil and tylenol do nothing to ease it. I find steaming my face helps and sleep. I`ve had numerous rounds of antibiotics that seem to help but then it just comes back.

The doctors are now thinking I have migraines but the pain is only there. It is driving me crazy. I`m supposed to have ethmoid and sphenoid surgery Dec 9th but my ENT doesn`t think its necessary but he is willing to try. I`m currently taking Paxil 20 mg, pulmicort in a saline rinse for my nose, reactine 20 mg, Nasonex. One  thing that has helped is Bromelian.

I see my ENT in a week and want to discuss Midfacial segment Pain. I would like to try amitripylane.

I`m so tired of being in constant pain. Sometimes my bridge and sides of my nose feel numb from all the  pressure.

How do I approach my ENT with this...

My ENT was the one who diagnosed me with this. My face (where my sinuses are) usually start hurting first then it radiates into a huge headache that no pain killers will touch.

I was only diagnosed just over a week ago after nearly 3 years of dealing with this. I had surgery to trim my nasal tubules which was awful. While it did help the pain came back after about 8 months so it was a complete waste of time and money.

No body seems to know a lot about it. I started on nortriptyline just over a week ago. I started having 10mg at night. The doctor gave me another drug but it interferes with my pill so I've decided to carry on with what I have.

The pharmacists recommended upping it to 20mg a day so I'm going to try that now, and after another solid 7 days of taking it I can up it again if I like.

Quite a few people have said to visit an osteopath so may give that a go to try get rid of this pain

Thank you so much, Owlcholic for your reply. I just got back from the ENT and he`s prescribed Gabapentin 100mg once per  day to start to see if it helps. Is this dosage high enough..É

sorry my computer is making strange symbols É instead of a question mark.

He also referred me to a headache neurologist. My surgery is cancelled for now as they want to explore this and migraines first. All the pain and pressure is at the bridge of my nose. Its horrible.

The pharmacist I talked to yesterday said gabapentin was also an option. It's mostly used for seizures but can be used for nerve pain. She said you usually start one once daily then build up to one 3 times a day as long as it's not making you to drowsy.

I think if the drugs I'm taking won't help I'm going to be asked to be referred to a neurologist or pain specialist. So sick of having these headaches!

thanks for the info I`m feeling rather lonely with this and it helps to have others to talk to, even though I wouldn`t wish this on anyone.

I`m so sick of this face pain, headache pain, the pressure feels so intense.

I keep thinking its a sinus infection even though the doctors say no.

I hope I get my appointment soon to a Neurologist. Feels like I`m wasting my life just being in pain so much. :`(

    hello Carissa

that sounds so like my experience. My nasal problems started at end of 2011.had recurrent bleeds from nasal linings, enlargement of tip of nose and bone growth.unbeknown to me gp recorded everyhting as sinus and congestion even though the reason for seeing GP was not them and there was no mention of sinusitis,ENT confirmed this .I had problems for a year before referral and it has just flared up again.

I still get the same if it flares up again come and see me but ive been doing that fro 4 years and still dont consider causes.once they get something fixed intheir heads thats it.
