Gosh you have done really well.  I have asked NOT to be given morphine as pain relief whn I have this op on MOnday.  How is your hip now?

This is a good supportive site and as kept me sane and calm though I am now on a very low dose of valium form now till Monday.

    Cheers.

    Hi Boysim,

I think you are doing well if you are now on 10 mg from 140 mg...

Your doctor will advise you on what to do next, have a word with him before attempting somethig new.

    Best wishes

    Hi boysim,

I have been on morphine for a few years and immediately after my hip replacement in February I was on 160mg daily, together with morphine sulphate oral solution. After a few weeks post op I gradually decreased my morphine tablets to the point I was only taking 10mg daily. I was just about to decrease it again to 10mg every other day with the intention of getting off it altogether (I ran out totally once for 2 days and it was like hell on earth) so I could be free of such an addictive drug.

2 things stopped me from taking that final step. 1 - I still had the bad right hip and was worried if I took myself off it altogether then they would not let me have it again after the second hip and 2 - I was still getting pain from the second hip.

Why hey don't you try what I was about to do and just take 10mg every other day until your body adjusts to that and then maybe every 3 days etc until you feel you can stop it altogether. That's my plan as I can't wait to be drug free. Be careful with the Tramadol too as I was told they were non addictive but trust me, they are. You could well just be changing one addictive drug for another.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do but if it was me, I would be trying one 10mg tablet every other day.

Hi Boysim, I wqs never offered Morphine just Naproxin 500mg and they played with my head a little for accuracy at work and seeing things that were not really there, worst thing I did was push a £300 pot to the wrong Full House...Yikes...redface Still feel bad about that one, as once the chips are over the line the hand is dead...but it was picked up by the players whilst the cards were still on the table...and I was eating Humble Pie for ages, but made better contact with the players concerned, and rode the storm,  cool and stopped taking Naproxin before work, I used Tramadol for pain relief, about 8X 50mgs in 24 hours, I work night in a casino, I used to dodge the cash games after that for a while, but had to deal them as I am or was a good cash dealer and the players like me. cool

So I guess you have got your self hooked on Morphine?? Like a Junkie..but you dont seem to finish your post...I  question I can no go without painkilers but keeping on a few a day so I can still get them should I need them for work next week where I will hopefully get a phased return to the long times spent on my feet...eek

We do 2hrs regularly, and often 3 hrs with no sit down...Needs to be addressed but they think we are soft, if we moan...rolleyes

Hope you will finish the post and keep in touch...Ian,

Very sorry to hear that your having difficulty titrating your dosage down off morphine. Do not go cold turkey off this drug. You can have life threatening symptoms there is no reason to do it by yourself. It takes time as the brain transmitters have cravings for the drug. As with any pain meds especially opiates and morphine. Tell your doctor you need help, he will understand and ask that he help you titrate the dosage down until your cravings have dissipated. There are many drugs that help block the craving in the brain and with the withdrawal symptoms as your doctor can prescribe for you.

This is not a matter of weakness or that you are a bad person, this is the brain controlled by nuero transmitters in the brain causing the cravings for this drug. Seek help !

I hope you find freedom & peace from this soon and no more suffering.

It is possible to move on . Many blessings sent your way!
