We went to Devon for a week: I was able to walk everywhere with a stick, including short walks on the beach! I even went as far as walking barefeet in the water, because the weather was superb! The only problems I have at the moment are: 1. Stiffness everywhere when I get up from sitting down. 2.Impossible to squat down, I haven't done it for such a long time that I am actually scared! 2. I can go down on both knees but I need to hold on to something to come up.3. I cannot touch the foot of my operated leg. 4. I cannot bend fully the operated leg.
Over all I am pleased with the way I am recovering but I would like some suggestions on how to improve. I can do all the exercises on the bookled given to me in hospital...Is there anything else I can do?
Best wishes to all of you
Ella

Ads and Abs machines, and leg raise machine, .all with low weights to start, i found to be excellent at the gym - but get a trainer to take you thru possibilities and technique.
Good luck....

if you have not already download the pocket physio app, there are some advanced exercises in there. Ask your GP for more physio, or go for a few private sessions.
i think stiffness when standing and starting to move is pretty universal, there was a thread on dealing with it last week. My own ploy is to stretch and "check ny handbag, coat etc" whilst I flex my muscles

All sounds well...tho you should have dropped by for a cup of tea with me in Devon!
No I still can't squat...but try to go onto knees 6 times a day to gain confidence. I now can arise easily without holding on...It will come. I also from kneeling plant one leg forward vertically from knee down...then the other...taught at my gym.
Take care

you are doing so good !!!! and lucky to have had good weather ...
So sorry I can't help you here - unoperated hip/leg is so bad and painful right now -
maybe add some strething exercises? gently and slowly to lengthen the muscles? or a good massage .... your body has been doing a lot of work recently and need pampering ... that is all she wrote !!!!
big warm hug and love

So Glad you were able to enjoy your holiday. I'm at 12 weeks also and have been going to physical therapy 2 times a week since the surgery. Some of the things that help me is to lay on the floor and put my ankles on a stability ball (you know those big balls you sit on) and bring the ball as near to your butt as possible.
Another good one is clamshells where you lie on your side with your knees bent and raise the top leg up and down keeping your back straight and do not lean forward.
Also, at work I walk down the long halls side ways, and backwards. I was also told to sit in an armless chair and to practice getting up and down by pretending I'm throwing a basketball as I'm getting up from the chair and pretending I'm catching the ball as I'm sitting back down.
i think all of the problems you mentioned are normal and we need to just keep trying to do them and have patience that we will be back to normal soon.
Hugs,
Judy
