Nerve related problem or something else?

Good afternoon,

Ive been having some pain now for quite a few years in my right leg but have never got to the bottom of what the problem is so ive just been living with it but now im getting additional symtoms which id like to discuss.

Here's my story, if anyone would point me in the right direction of where i should go from here it would be appreciated.

Quite a few years ago i started getting pain in my right thigh when ever tried any weight berring activities like running for example. The pain would be an intense burning pain above the right knee upto the groin area, as time went on the pain became more and more frequent, i could now get the pain just be leaning backwards in a certain position like leaning back to kick a ball so i went to the doctor and he sent me off to get a CT Scan of my lumbar spine, the results showed a pinched nerve in my back. I followed this up with my doctor who sent me to physio for around a month. The physio said that the pinched nerve location in the back should not give me the pain in the location where im getting the pain in my leg, we were able to reproduce the pain by twisting me in certain postions but nothing really helped to get rid of it, my physio thought the pain was coming from the femoral nerve and gave me some exersies to do to try and losen this up but in the end with no joy i got referred back to my doctor. The doctor sent me for another CT Scan on my lumber region, the results this time no pinched nerve but inflamation in the spine, i went back to the doctor who has refered me to a pain specialist next month to get some cortisone injections to reduce the inflamation. But the thing that is worrying me a bit is for the last 3 weeks i have had prickly & icy sensations all over my body but mainly on the arms and legs,  i also have a very slight back ache in the middle of my back but not sure if thats related or not. The prickly feelings i get more than the icy feelings but both all seem to start in the right leg all the way down to the ankle not just the thigh area,  then as the day goes on they move all around the body, hands, arms, legs, back, torso but never head, face or feet. I saw my doctor on Tuesday who prescribed me Amitriptylne to block out the prickly sensations and i spoke to him about vitamin b deficency so he sent me for blood tests to test by b levels including my glucose.

Does this sound like anything any of you can releated to?

What is my next step in getting this resolved?

Do you think the intial leg problem and the prickly feelings are related or two seperate problems?

Any other advice would be welcomed.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Kind regards David.

Hmm....anyone refer you to a Neurologist for an MRI of your brain for indications of MS?

Do you have other symptoms related to MS other than this pain and prickly feelings?

I just sent you a link via PM for you to check out...sounds like you may want to be evaluated for this sad

Hi Missy thanks for the reply.

No i havent been checked out for MS, i did however have an MRI around 5 years ago and that was fine however i suspect things could change within the time.

Symptoms wise, Yes to fatigue, yes to Tingly senssations (Mine are prickly but think it means the same thing) no to the rest so im hoping this is not the case but worth mentioning to my doctor.

i thought one of the very first symtpoms of MS was blurred vison or some kind of of vison problem, i have no vison problems at present.

Brain changes frequently...I had an MRI 3 months ago and they want another one now...so I don't think they would do that for nothing because it costs alot of money...so 5 years ago is a long time ago.

Your Dr. may not think it necessary.  I think your right my sisters first symptom was she lost VISION in one eye for over a week!

And her MRI came back normal...it was a spinal tap that revealed she had MS.

?Good luck to you...keep us posted.

Hi Missy, thanks for the reply. Hopefully its just a problem with my back or something quite normal that will go away in time, i had something quite similar a year ago and that just dissapeared over time, lets hope this does the same. Im not saying this is anxiety but i know the more anxious you are the more it can exacerbate normal symptoms and anything to do with my health panic mes a bit. Have you been diganoised with MS or are you going through tests to determine what is causing your trouble?
