newly diagnosed

Hi I have suffered a lot of heartburn, stomach pain and problems and vomiting for over 8 yrs or maybe more. My doctor had been dismissing me when asking for investigations due to my age (30). Only yesterday did I have an endoscopy after being referred to a gi consultant at start of the year. I am just now concerned as they have said it was a large or long area of barrats oesophagus and a hitias hernia and have sent for biopsies. Is there any advice on diet etc? I am not overweight, dnt smoke and only drink alcohol socially .. thanks in advance

Hey, I'm only 24 and I too have been diagnosed with Barratts, in fact I'm due to have an operation called a fundoplication in 3 weeks, you may get offered this after further tests.

Best thing to do for now is stick to low acidic foods, don't eat a couple of hours before bed and sleep raised, all of these should help with your reflux symptoms.

Are you taking any prescribed medication yet?

I'm not the best expert, but plenty of people on this site will offer you great advice, this site has got me through some of the worse times as you can finally sympathise with others and not feel like what your feeling is completely abnormal!!

Have you checked out the sites I suggested in your other post? - particularly BarrettsWessex org uk

As to diet, we are all different and react to foods differently. You will need to identify your own trigger foods. They are likely to include fatty foods as they don't dissolve easily in acid in the stomach and remain there being churned and sprayed with more acid.

Check out the DownWithAcid org uk as well

I'll also pm you a link to a recipe book (free pdf download) you may find helpful.
