Newlywed sick for almost a year

I started getting sick to my stomach last year around this same time. I thought it was something I was eating so I changed it but it still continued. I went to my regular doctor they said it sounds like indigestion. I experience chest pains straight up the middle, stomach pains and cramping all in the middle. Severally nauseas at all times and worse after eating. I kept telling them my chest felt like I had something stuck in it like a pill. I did all the blood work and testing for the usual stomach ulcer or infection, nothing. I did a endoscopy that showed nothing. I did a ct scan that showed I had a nodule on my thyroid growing and their suggestion was to have it removed that it could be causing the pain in my throat area. I had thyroid surgery a month ago and all my symptoms are back. Still nauseas, still constipated, still have throat or chest discomfort and severe stomach cramping that keeps me up all night and effects my daily life. I do not think this is a stress related issue for me. I tried to fodmap diet and noticed no significant changes.. Does anyone else have any answers..... Please help!

I have IBS, hideal hernia, GERD etc. I had/ have similar symptoms but it never keeps me awake at night. Did they prescribe any medication for the indigestion? I was prescribed Omiprazol 40 mg. And the indigestion we went away. I take Miralax OTC for my constipation and it helps alot. I still get periodic cramping but it is never severe. Did your doc ever drop a camera down your throat? I understand that is done in the office. It might pick up something the other tests didnt. Good luck. I know how you feel and I wouldn't wish these symptoms on anyone.

What can you do for IBS? I've changed my diet. They did prescribe me a stronger dose of Prilosec for indigestion or heart burn but it did nothing. It doesn't feel like indigestion or heartburn to me though but I did do that medicine long term with no help. It's the stomach issues that are making me miserable. A year of feeling like this every single day is about to drive me crazy

Perhaps you have IBS or disturbance after your thyroid surgery. Ask your doctor for a thyroid function test to make sure you are not under active or overactive. Get your T4 and T3 levels checked. If your thyroid is working too little, you can get constipation..

The Fodmap diet helps many people but it doesn't work for everyone.

I only had the nodule on my thyroid removed to help this whole situation. In the mix of them trying to figure out everything they found that. My thyroid levels are completely normal it was just that growth. I had it removed because they said that could be the cause of me having the throat and chest discomfort but it didn't help at all and the stomach issues are back full force. What can they do for Ibs besides diet?

Because I suffer with constipation Miralax OTC has been a blessing for me. Now if you have diarrhea you don't want miralax. And seeing a specialist for this is probably wise. Normally your pcp will only refer you out. The specialist will want to do a colonoscopy to rule out anything suspicious. But yes diet is key. I'm definitely not good when it comes to dieting. When I eat something my gut doesn't like it let's me know. No fried foods, no acidic fruits or veggies or juices. No caffeine (sodas or regular coffee) etc.

Thanks for the comment. I have been doing miralax and it does help with the constipation but still constantly feel sick to my stomach. I've been seeing a specialist and they have also had no answers so that's why I seeked this forum.

They can give you anti spasmodics to reduce pain, low dose anti depressants, constipation/diarrhoea medicine.  Peppermint oil capsules help some so long as you don't have acid reflux.  You could also try probiotics.

Okay thanks I've been taking a antidepressant for years and a prescription for constipation as well. Neither have helped the nauseas feeling so I will ask about the others. Thank you for the help

Sounds like a tyroid problem, The best thing to do is go to your doctor, They know more about you than any of us here. (Unless your doctor is on here).

    Hope for the best. smile
