So I had finally been seen by a psychologist after seeing my gp for a good solid 9 months regarding my depression. So after they had lost my referral I went back to my gp and asked him to make the referral once again. they booked me in quite quickly. So from the telephone assessment they were given a Brief description of the causes of my depression, the fact that I know longer have the motivation to take my medication anymore, I have plans to kill myself and I am having trouble sleeping. So as the session begins I go into description of my depression and how it began etc sobbing my eyes out at the same time. He then ends the session with there's a 3-4 month waiting list for individual therapy. Cheers mate, no wonder so many people are killing themselves. I am currently more depressed having left the counselling session than I did coming to it. suicidal people give themselves 2 options you either kill yourself or seek help, people are seeking help but aren't getting it.what are we supposed to do? Pills are not adequate.

So sorry you've had to go through that.
You did the right thing my taking control & seeking help but unfortunately they sound like they have no clue what they are doing.
Worst thing is when you don't feel like you're being taken seriously.
Luckily we understand what you're going through so you always have the support from here.
I have tried meds, therapy, counselling the lot. You have to hound them to get the help you need but you deserve it so don't stop trying.
Maybe try a different doctor or depending on how bad you get go straight to the hospital.
All the best x

Another email was forwarded and I was given an appointment for the sedation in Mid Feb next year, after they cancelled a further appointment to see me.
Over a period of time it would now seem referrals are going missing so a further referral needs to be sent out. At each stage of treatment, you go back onto another waiting list, this may go on for several periods before the treatment is undertaken.
I will be seeing my own Dentist six weeks after treatment, that will be a twelve months so that is now I was checked, and referred, then reffered again, my Dentist checked my teeth and I had a first referral, I was then given a treatment date, then it will be verging on twelve months my next dental check up.
Sad to say the Government is not giving sufficent money to give treatments of the waiting lists,, it looks like in this case we are down to a twelve month wait

Hi,
As far as I am aware gp clinics have some sort of contract with mental health therapy.
You go on a list but should not wait longer than 90 days.
So you get contacted just before then.
Then you are allotted a certain number of sessions, then times up.
It's disgraceful how we are treated, or not.
Mike.

Yup that's the nhs for you. Their intention is that you pay privately, they've actually suggested that to me before

I read somewhere that in the UK mental health problems are the 2nd biggest reason people go to their doctors (bad backs are the No 1). And for this only 13% of the budget is allocated to mental health. Ridiculous. x

Hi I did the same a while back but after the initial assesements I wasn't offered any NHS counselling, just referred back to my doctor. This is despite telling them of my suicidal feelings and being diagnosed with moderate depression (diagnosed by a psychiatrist I didn't even see whom the young woman counsellor trotted off it). He said to raise my ad's and stop my other ad which helps me sleep. I put a stop to that and even though I am prescribed a higher dose I thought stuff them and only take my usual dose. They can't possibily diagnose me like that - it's ridiculous. This is when I realised that mental health care is now obviously rationed in my area. x
